I'm going to answer every PM rite now. I've just been very busy with my wife, and one month old baby boy.;)

I brought the system in my sig here, but it seems the CPU is dead. I put it in my sisters rig (swapped the 3500) for a while, and then it sat in the plastic package it came in (with the anti-static mat) in a box for a while.

Long story short, I put the system back together... Nothing.:(

It's a shame, as I bought the CPU rite when it came out for ~$1000. :|

Does your sister's computer have an updated BIOS to recognize the 4800+ ?? or are you saying it ran in her PC for awhile but now won't?

Just how dead is dead? Something that high performance needs second checking.

I was getting no beep codes or anything...

OK, I ripped everything apart. When I took the RAM out, The BIOS started complaining, giving me a beep code for no RAM. Awesome, because if there is any beep's at all, it means the CPU is working.

I don't know how, but one of the Ballistix sticks went bad. So now it's running in single channel mode, with only 512MB of RAM. Kind of slow!

That's easy enough to take care of though. I'm just happy that I put another 5.6 GHz online! :D

I'm thinking about replacing the RAM with 2x1GB sticks of high speed DDR, any recomendations?

Yeah, that hurts too - now they are 15 million Mpts ahead of us. Kind of hard to catch up on. :(

Well, I can get another ~10 GHz online (I know 20 if I really tried). It's hard too tell the exact amount, as I feel that anything below At least 2 GHz for AMD, and 3 GHz for P4's is a waste of time, and electricity.

I wanted to put an icon at the end, but I couldn't find a correct one. :)

Only way is to ask the Admins, and beg, and beg, and beg, and beg ...

I remember that "process" one time with I guess Crazee, and that took ages!

Wow, I am very unhappy with the way this DC client can monopolize CPU cycles, never had this problem with RC5. Sometimes I have to close this to use CPU-intensive tasks, like Supreme Commander (PC-Game), encoding (in both WMP, and DVD shrink)
(Yes, the client is set to be a background task, but it still seems to take 'control' of the CPU.)

I use all those while crunching too lol I love Supreme Commander have you tried command and conquer 3 yet? Out of curiosity,
how much ram are you running in that rig?

Are you running an antivirus scan in the background at all?

Interesting, do you have it set as background in the 'config.txt'? Also, are you running 'muon1_background.exe'?

Aside from that, I couldn't think of any problems. I personally haven't had any problems with DPAD. The one thing you may be running into, is that DPAD uses ALOT of RAM.

Yes, as stated, everything is supposed to be background. While the 17 MB of ram is ~10x more than the RC5 client I am used to, I have 2GB of RAM, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Another interesting note is that the computer basically becomes unresponsive if the screen saver kicks in. Even though it is a blank screen.

I have not tried C&C 3 yet, but I want to. Then again I have confirmed that it is my Venice 3200 holding me back on supreme commander, not my 7900GS, which is really sad, as I cannot afford dual core...

I've run DPAD on everything (concerning AMD) From simple Tbred's, to X2's. As far as Intel, a couple P4's, and one C2D (I didn't bother with the P3's).

This shouldn't be happening.

I concur. I'm running DPAD on eight PIII 868Mhz with 256Mb RAM boxes at the moment, all performing actual non-crunching work with no major slowdowns in responsiveness.

Try editing config.txt and set priority to 'L' and see if that helps?

cheers, and thanks for crunchin' DPAD. :)

edit: FWIW, RAM usage with DPAD wasn't very high until I started accumulating large results.dat files. On the boxen that have a lot of RAM I leave it as is. On the ones with limited RAM, I rename the file when it gets over 10Mb.
