Hard times are coming? Hard times have been here since 2008.
See. You have no idea what hard times are.

Says the guy who suckles on Uncle Sam and a defined benefit pension plan that has been all but removed from private industry in America. Seriously congrats for you but you're not one to really talk about hard times either.See. You have no idea what hard times are.

LOL boomer not thinking 2008 was hard times when a bunch of millennials with crushing student debt entered a hugely depressed job market thanks to criminals on Wall Street.
LOL
Millennials entering into crushing student debts for worthless degrees, without any solid plan to pay it back.
The crooks on Wall Street are a different subject.
I fullfilled my contract with "Uncle Sam" which stated that I work for him for 20 years and I would receive 10 years of retainer pay at 50% of my working pay rate, then I would move to the retired roles at the same 50% pay rate for the rest of my life.
I was also smart enough to then work for a company that has a defined benefit pension plan. They also have a 401K plan that the match 75 cents on the dollar up to 10%.
Sorry but that is called planning ahead.
I may have it pretty good now, but raising a family on military pay back in the 70s and 80's wasn't an easy time.
Education is never worthless. People have explained ad nauseum why Student Debt of recent times is nothing like what it used to be.
I'm glad we agree that you don't really have the experience necessary for you to be able to properly determine the accuracy of your signature..
So your single anecdote is representative of the experience of an demographic bracket? That's now how statistical data analysis and interpretation actually works.I know a girl that ran up well over 200K in college debt for an Art degree and a Political Science degree. Suffering for it now.
I didn't say an education was worthless. Many degrees are worthless however.

Would an art degree or political science degree cost $200k during your college years? I don't think so, even taking into account dollars then vs now.Her degrees were and still are worthless as she is not in either field and still paying for it decades later... She is not alone in this issue by a long shot.
$200k is a ridiculous Cost. That is the only problem here. Art and PoliSci education benefits society in many ways. Don't view the World through an Accountants eyes. It blinds you to other important things.

Cost of education has become much more expensive than it used to be.
Not everyone needs a college education, but it helps society when a good amount of people have one. Just not at the insane costs now.As I said she was stupid. That is the point here.
I had no college years. I'm a heathen that aquired my advanced education in the Navy as a Nuclear Missile technician on Submarines and OJT.
Why are the respondents not working in their field of study? Could they not find employment? Were employers' requirements ridiculous for an entry level position? Did the respondents not find the work interesting or meaningful?![]()
Most U.S. College Grads Don’t Work in the Field They Studied, Survey Finds
A quarter of grads over the age of 25 make less than $35,000 a year, with many close to the poverty level.www.bloomberg.com
"Here’s a statistic that may give some pause: More than half of college graduates over the age of 25 don’t work in their field of study, according to a new survey from Intelligent.com.
The survey also found that 25% of respondents earn less than $30,000 a year, while approximately one out of seven earned less than $15,000 per year."
I agree that 200K is insane and stupid. She had to go to some university in Spain and then here back in the US and then back to Spain again. Probably included all of her living expenses in it too.
Even if it was only the average of about 30 - 32K it would be a waste and useless in her case. And she isn't alone by far:

Right wingers like to repeat this lie, it's not just "worthless" degrees that are incurring crippling debt. Out of the people I know I know a couple pharmacists, and engineer and a lawyer who are still paying off their loans and will be for a long time.LOL

I thought the free market was supposed to solve everything
Mayor Pete has a good solution, except shitty Republicans will call it socialism, or whatever their ignorant base eats up that day

Only gonna get worse as the Air Force transitions to drones over the next 30 years.

My point was not that she was stupid or not (in this case I don't think it was smart of her to rack up that much debt for those degrees). As I said she was stupid. That is the point here.
