For the same price you can buy Pacific Digital (rebaged LITE-ON) from Staples.
LITE-ON 24X is the only one on the market which can break SD2 enconding without CloneCD

Order now think later. Choose in-store pickup to save shipping and to be cool and just walk in and have the hottest item for which everyone else was killing themselves, and which is long sold out, waiting reserved just for you.

Also, use Amex as TDK is already selling 32x10x40 burners at Costco so soon everyone else will be selling them for, I guess, $99 without rebates and IF they do you will get another $30 pricematch.

If the TDK is a Liteon, then why does the tests say it has bad CloneCD performance and nothing said about that on the Liteon (non-rebadges)?

Does TDK F-with it some?

The TDK 24X drives are NOT Liteon drives. They are Sanyo drives. If you go to .Cdr Info they have a review there which clearly states that this drive is a Sanyo and not a Liteon. I have the QPS Sanyo rebadge which works great and never burns coasters but will not burn SD2. Just wanted to clear that up so people aren't misinformed

That deal on the Staples Pacific Digital CDR (item 471101) isn't exactley right.. the rebate link link is only $20..so $110 - 20 coupon thing - 20 rebate = $70. still not bad, but not great.

The TDK is $129.99 online. If I do an in-store pickup, the price will still not be $60~ after rebate. How did you guys manage that?

CC has both a $50 (TDK's) and a $20 (CC's) rebates.

Check your Sunday paper. If you got one.

Ok, cool. CC loves doing to combo rebates. That's so annoying, but hey, they usually come through with them anyhow.

If Fry's is selling it for $109 then why not pricematch that price over at Circuit City? Then it would be $39, right? $129 - $20 (pricematch) - $50 (rebate #1) - $20 (rebate #2) = $39 + tax.

Anyone have a link to a review for the pacific digital drive? ~$60 is a decent price, especially with free shipping and no tax. I just want to make sure it is a good drive...any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There is another thread where they muse using this idea to PM Staples with the Sam's Club receipt for the 56.91. Knowing Staples I doubt they would do that, especially if not a local PM, unless you ran into newbie countergirl.

The print ad also mentions a 10 pack of cdr's for free with the purchase of this or any drive over 89.99. I already ordered....I guess I'll have to call to get this addes. Also, the print ad shows a $20 rebate, however, the website has a $30 rebate....

You nuts and your 'everything is a rebadged.....'

Just buy the TDK or Plextor that has TDK or PLEXTOR on the drive. Why take chances?

The Lite-on I ordered w/ this threads advice was a crap SANYO drive. I returned it for a Plextor @ only a few dollars more.

TDK uses several drive manufacturers and rebadges them for their VeloCD brand name. The original TDK 24X CD-RWs were indeed Sanyos with Burn-Proof, but the newest ones are Lite-On with Smart-Burn. My CC had several versions of this TDK drive on the shelf. One had Burn Proof, two had Just-Link, and the rest (about 10) had Smart-Burn. Unless you know which drive manufacturers use wHich buffer underrun technology, then you are SOL
