Since all of the Best Buy stores near me ran out of these discs on Sunday itself, I had to place an order on their web-site - it kept on showing the order status as being backordered for a few days, but now shows it as being in the process of being fulfilled.

The product page shows them as being sold out, and does not even allow you to order them online.

i got the last pack @ Milford, CT BB... still not sure if I want to keep these or return them and buy a 100 pack of DVD-Rs online for less than $.80/disc. I got in on the Sony DRU-510A for $130 deal... anyone know if these TDK's will burn @ 4x w/ this drive or are there issues like w/ the other sony drive?

I've burned five of the TDK 4x's in my DRU-510A as *data* discs so far with no issues (and yes, they really burn in 15-16 minutes). The DVDInfo dump from the spindle I got is:

What issues? These burn perfect at 4X as long as you have the latest firmware.
Ricoh discs are on Sony's approved list and as long as you stick with discs on that list they will burn at thier
rated speed. If your disc is not on that list it will most likely return to the slowest speed.

People keep saying the 500 has issues when it doesn't. What it has is people making assumptions and not reading
the documentation and then they pass on bad info.

these are nice disks but they are not perfect.......

tho they seem to burn flawlessly at 4x on my sony 500 with the latest firmware..... (nero reports successfull etc and no errors......)

if you do a data verification the last file on the disk always fails (tried 5 diff burns/compilations and all failed on the last file..... all other were fine....

ps- reburned all at 2.4x and the last file and the rest of the disk all passed verification.... for what its worth check yer disks... :) :(

the burn was flawless... too bad my mom's dvd player won't read them... i haven't tried them in mine yet, but im almost positive it'll work.

oh, and just like everyone else, the burn took between 14 and 15 minutes. NICE!

@Hummercash if you are using Nero to burn these DVD discs and they don't work
try RecordNow Max. My friends DVD player fails every time if I burn with Nero, but
it has always worked if I use RecordNow MAX.
Keep in mind that I have not used Nero in a few versions, but I know Nero was never
100% DVD compliant, this may have changed, but since RecordNow Max works perfect for
every DVD player I have tried it in why change.

its a little checkbox in nero you check before or during a burn...

as for nero being the problem,,,, i more than doubt it... i always use the latest version and have yet to have a bad burn ..... gone thru over 600 accu 1x disks at 2x flawlessly...... 90% with nero and they play in all 4 players i have tried.... and none up till now ever failed verification until these :(

I suspect it's Nero and the disc. As stated you have only tested 1x and 2x disc. If it's erroring on the very last file of the disc every time? How could every single DVD have a bad file at the end of every disc. That'd be a huge manufacturing error. I've been using these disc flawlessly for the past few weeks. Good disc.

If you're using Nero, make sure you upgrade to at least 5.5.10.7 or higher. From their bug fixes report "Fixed the bug which produced incompatible Video-DVDs not playable on some DVD-players". I use 5.5.10.35 and have never had a problem.

No problem man, just glad it isnt all your disc that are bad. I knew mine were great and thats why I was pretty sure it wasnt yours.

I've never had a problem with nero either, so I hope you got it fixed.

Atleast you figured out the problem!

Just stopped by a local Best Buy and they had gotten some 100 packs back in stock and after having a VERY pointed discussion with the SAME operations manager that was on duty last week and wouldn't raincheck them after I drove in for 45 minutes becuause they told me they had them on the telephone, he authorized me to purchase them for the sale price.

I snagged two after all the grief and wasted time to make it work my while. I am NOT impressed with Best Buy lately, this same manager last week assured me Best Buy was never getting any more of these TDk 4x 100 packs dvds in anymore and refused to issue a rain check and walked away in the middle of the conversation also.

I know that some ads ran no rainchecks BUT I would never have drive that long to pick some up if they had not told me they had them in stock.

On top of that when I explained this mess to a neighbor he had mentioned the local Best Buy managers have had several customers arrested when they were supposedly misled or had a disagreement with the managers about honoring a rain check or rebate. The way it was related to me is that the customers were not being belligerant but just trying to get what they were promised. In one case the police dropped the charges but in another the local D.A. did pursue charging the customer.

My opinion of Best Buy is REALLy dropping like a rock lately. I keep hearing this type of stuff.

Anyway on the discs themselves:

Is this true then, no matter the last file is that Nero burns on these TDK 4x discs, its always going to be defective???

thats a real problem for me as Nero is the software I use. I did download the latest update.

I don't know if I have a copy of RecordNow or not around.

Should I change recording software?

Nero and the TDK 4x DVD+R discs.

AHEAD NERO v. 5.5.10.42

Ok, I burnt my first 3 tonight. The first one failed a verify on the first largest vob file when burning a video disc but played ok when viewed except one spot where it hiccuped 3 times in a row in a 5 sec period.

Interesting enough thats the worst hiccup I have ever seen in video dvd I have burned to date, -R or +R format. The player kept going. I wonder if the losslinking +R has that -R does not play a factor in this.

I have a few homemade -R's off this sony burner with small hiccups, like .5 to 1 sec hesitation but not many. I was just wondering if it was as big as the one on the +R disc, if a -R with the problem would behave worse, anyway...

The next 2 TDK +R 4x discs verified perfectly 4x

A fouth 4x disc just failed completely on the burn at 49%.

A fifth disc worked okay, so I wondering if its Nero.

The difference between 2.4x and 4x speed on the Sony DRU 5xx dvd burners as quite as big as I thought, probably due to the speed being 2.4x NOT 2.0x.

While BB currently has the FUJI 50 pack for 59.99, and the 25 pack is on sale too I think, for 10 cents more a disc, its worth it to save on the burning time.

I have a copy Sonic MyDVD I may try out as well.

Ok, burned 2 more coasters with 4x and the latest version of Nero and my sony drive :(

Its the Sony DRU 500A with firmware F I believe.

When I dropped back to 2.4x it worked just fine. I downloaded a copy of RecordNow Max but after digging through the menu's I can not find the right settings for burning video dvd's.

Anyone help out with that for RecordNow?

I have 2 packs of the 100 4x speed +R's.

Anyone else burning at 4x with the 500A and no issues and Nero??

First time I have ever had a problem with Nero in a year.

Ok, I just had a TDK 4x disc fail at 2.4x on the Sony with Nero, when I turned it over there seemed to be a jagged area that was the same changed color as written jags at the inside edge of the written tracks in one spot.

That is coaster 5 or 6 from this 100 pack.

I am going back to the FUJI 2.x +R's until I can learn RecordNow Max this is a waste :(
