So I'm wondering if we could use our 10% off coupons that we got in the mail the other day to make this deal even hotter???

$189.99 - 10% = $171.00

$171.00 - $60 rebate = $111.00 + tax

or about $1.19 a disc
Not sure if the blank DVD+R qualify for the 10% off. Coupon expires today - June 29th . Looks like I'll have to visit my local BB and try the coupon I received. BTW, there is no $ 60 MIR rebate involved, it's a Instant Rebate.

$189.99 - $60 Instant rebate = $129.99 - 10% off= $116.99 + tax (8.5% for me) = $126.93. Comes out to about $1.27/4.7 GB DVD+R or 27 cents /GB. 😉

Not a bad price for 4X DVD+R blanks. Time to back up my 120GB HDDs.

The Sony DRU-500A is only 2.4x capable with the DVD+R discs. The DRU-500AX is the 4x one.
Sorry, but that is wrong. With a current firmware the 500A IS 4X capable.
The AX was simply a firmware and documentation revision to show the new capabilities of the 500.

From the Sony site.

What improvements will the 2.0F firmware upgrade give my DRU500A or DRX500L?

The 2.0F firmware...
Allows your Dual RW drive to record at 4X on 4X compatible DVD-/+R media.
Improves reading and writing performance and reliability.
Reduces vibration noise for the discs with unbalance or eccentricity.
Improves audio playback on written discs with stand alone systems.

I think you might be confusing the DVD+RW 4X Support in the 510 which the 500 series(including the AX) does not have.

You should put "AR" in the post title. And since this is limited to "5 per store", YMMV would be appropriate also.

I picked a spindle up this morning at the BB in North Austin. They are true to their word--there were 6 spindles on the shelf. Maybe more in the back, but knowing BB, I wouldn't count on it.

They also had TDK DVD-R for the same price, but that required a mail-in rebate. Maybe that's where the confusion is coming from.

One more point: I have a HP-DVD200e DVD recorder. It's 2.4x and this media is 4x. There is a firmware update on the HP site that "changes the laser write strategy" to make it "more" compatible with 4x media. Hopefully the "more" compatible means *compatible*. It still only writes at 2.4x after the update, but that's ok with me.

Question: I wonder if this media works in the Phillips DVDR-985 DVD recorder since that model came out well before the advent of 4X media. Has anyone tried it? I have firmware version FF11h.

Whoops--just found out a firmware upgrade to FF12n is needed. So be it.

14min burning heaven...Sweet picked up a 100 pack at Best Buy in San Diego (Oceanside, CA)..at 12:30pm today. They still had 5 packs left on the shelf. And I thought the Target $1.50 was a deal. I wasn't going to do this because of the MIR but then I saw that is wasn't MIR but instant rebate over on another forum and I jumped on it.

It says $190 in their circular, $190 on the shelf, but it rings up $130! No mail in rebate prints with the receipt, though, but since it rings up as an IR instead of an MIR I'm not complaining. Snagged the last one at my Las Cruces, NM store.

Burns in ~14 min on my Sony DRX-500ULX.

Bump for HOT deal! $1.30/disc for quality 4x DVD media!

IR=INSTANT REBATE. And my gawd, always something to complain about, YMMV, geez. Next time we ought to have a lawyer prepare the writing before posting?

sold out in Oceanside, CA store...my friend was there around 2:45pm and he didn't get one...oh well. You snooze you lose.

Got the last and only 100pk from the westminster, CA store. They were selling 2 50pks as the substitution after that.

Where did you see the mail-in rebate? Is it advertised anywhere?

I bought these and I cant burn them at 4x. I dont think its a problem with the media, its my burner. I have a cendyne dvd+r 4x burner and it takes 33 minutes to burn a 4x dvd even when it says its burning at 4x.

I'm using Nero 5.5.9.17 and the recorder buffer keeps dropping down to zero then back up to 100 and fluctuation back and forth. Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can burn a dvd in 15 min? Thanks.

btw, there werent any left at the emeryville bb

Anyone not need a full spindle of DVD+Rs PM me if you wanna split one at cost. Dunno if this is illegal or not ill edit if it is

Try updating your firmware first.
Here

If you are in XP check in Control Panel - System - Hardware Device Manager - IDE ATA/Atapi Controllers Primary/Secondy Properties -> Advanced Settings. Make sure your IDE Device settings is in DMA mode and not PIO. If it's in PIO then you need to fix that.

They had some in stock on the bb website, but not anymore. The site also says available for pickup in most areas, so your luck may vary.
