I got a Tbird 1.1 GHz a couple of weeks ago with a Msi K7T Pro2 and modified my
Alpha FC-Pal35 to fit on the Athlon (Removed the plastic legs) anyways a week after i bough a new case Fong Kai Fk-603 with a 300watts AMD approuved PS and when i put the cpu back on it wasn't working... the led on the board were telling that there was a cpu failure, but luckly i was able to get rma and get a new one that i'll have tomorrow. So i was wondering if it was safe to put back my Alpha on that tbird, i think that it crushed the core last time, i've heard so many horror stories about that i'm thinking of getting a superorb.

Would that be Justified?

Thanks

The alpha clip is far more forgiving than the Super Orb clip. Keep in mind that the super-orb base isn't exactly optimized for contact iwth the pads on the CPU.

My advice would be to get a taisol cgk742, or a newer alpha with a revisied 2.0 Clip.

on your msi k7t pro2a the taisol would be a good option however it won't fit w/out modifying it first. i'd reccommend an alpha pal6035 which will do the job perfectly, that's what i used before when i had a pro2a and what i use now on a kt7a-raid.

ok but the Alpha FC-PAL35 is the same thing as a 6035 (without the plastic feet) right?

If it were me and you were going to buy a new HSF I would look at the FOP-32/38 they have better performance then the taisol and superorb, they are much cheaper than the alpha and they fit they will fit your board without modification. I choose the FOP-38 for my Duron 800@1000 and it works great.

The Taisol CGK742092 performs as well as teh FOP32, with a quieter fan. Its major-negative is that it is oversized.

Well you could also have a look at the Hedghog HSF combo! Very good for cooling and I think it is one of the best HSF ever made. Have a look at it.

I didn't find any HSF by Taisol, anyways in Montreal :(
But i found a local store that i have Global Win Fans and Thermaltake.
So i think my choice would be either a SuperOrb or a FOP32-1.

MikeWarrior is probably right about the Taisol outperforming the FOP-32, but probably not by much and with the addition of the Black Delta 38 cfm fan the FOP-38 will definetly outperform the taisol. Anyway to make a long story short do yourself a huge favor and don't buy an ORB. They are overrated and they tend to crush cores on our poor Durons-T-Birds. Either the Taisol or the FOP-32 would definetly be a better choice then anything orb from what I have seen. :)

don't go with the superorb for it's clip... it's very capaable of crushing cpus as well.. I haven't actually crushed one, but chipped a poor Duron severely trying to remove a superorb

I'm not sure where to get Taisol's in Canada.

The FOP heatsink wiht a 38CFM fan will beat a CGK with a 20CFM fan. Put them both with the same fan, and htey're very competitive. The default CGK has the advantage of beign fairly quiet.

Regarding teh Super-Orb, anyone else notice that the bases are not even entirely flat, and that the pads are always properly contacted?

I've checked anand Socket A Roundup from November and it seems that the best option for me would be the FOP32-1 with a YS Fan (i don't want a tornado in my case) since the FK case that i have as a Wind Tunnel right on top of the CPU and that should give good result in keeping the temperature of the cpu when i'm gonna overclock.

Anandtech Review issues aside(they have major problems), you could also do well a revised 2.0 Alpha. Or if you're willing to modify the heatsink, the Taisol CGK742092 as well.

I wish i could get my hands on a Taisol, but i've been without a cpu for about 2 weeks and i wanna set it up this week-end. And the only good HSF i can get my hands on would be a GlobalWin, Orb, Coolmasters. So i should go with that:

Global Win FOP32-1 Cooler
for AMD and Intel Socket CPUs

- AMD Socket 462/A and Intel FC
- 26cfm YS Tech Fan
- 70mm x 62 mm x 37 mm
- noise level: 32dBa
- Uses Ball Bearing System
- Made from Aluminum

right?

Hi I have a similar problem here too....

But I live in germany... And the only thing i could get a hold on is a Artic cooler... HACA 0001... But how you know is that cracking the chip too... so what other cooler is going to be out there? I would order in America then... But you know like DreamKaZz said I don't want a too noisy HSF...

Is there anything similar to the HACA 0001 or do I have to wait till April when the newer release comes out (maybe???)...

Does anybody know about the newer clip???

sorry that i broke your discussion,,, but maybe you know something..

ManuTOmanU,

you can get most of the popular HSF's in Germany as well. I usually don't advertise shops but can get HSF's here... (for example)

PC Cooling
(Alpha, Global Win, Orb, Coolermaster, Kanie)

Levermann (Alpha, Taisol)

Frozen Silicon (Global Win, Orb)

Thetatech (Alpha, Global Win)

...just to name a few.
