Gaga is unique. Taylor could be replaced by someone tomorrow that looks identical to her, sings identical to her, she is not bringing anything new and even though she brings nothing new, her tired old shit isn't refined either.

Gaga gets a lot of shit, means she's doing something right.

More like "the potential to be the next madonna and have an unimaginably long and successful career, at least as far as pop stars are concerned"

Quote me on it and when in 10 years she's still churning out hits, I'll be back to this thread to gloat.

:D

I have no doubt she will be.
I despise Madonna and just about every piece of crap song she's ever made.
Is there a market for Gaga? Without question. Does that mean she's got this great talent? To her fans I guess so. But this thread is about differentiating between those that are her fans, and those who like a good, albeit more boring singer. I choose Swift.

Swift is unbelievably sexy, undoubtedly talented (and i hate country music) and has a very home town, down home southern belle vibe that makes her very appealing.

Shes a great song writer too. But musically, overall, GaGa has more raw talent IMO - and I know music majors that agree. I can understand why she wouldn't appeal to a lot of people. I hate country music and I recognize Swift's talent for sure - not sure why so many can't recognize GaGa's whether they like the music or not.

Smooth sidestep. Now answer the question. Where do you draw the line?

I probably would not want my daughter to be a porn star for much the same reason I would not particularly want her to be a waitress or a secratary. I would prefer she do something a little bit more challenging or likely to lead to a more rewarding career.

That said, I don't see how this has anything to do with LGG, if the question is, would I want my daughter to prance around in skin toned underwear and perform simulated sex with actors as part of a fantastically expressive and orginal music video, yes, I would be very happy with that.

OK, a moment of seriousness:

GaGa's songs are catchy club songs for the most part.

Good songs:
Bad Romance
Paparazzi
Alejandro
Just Dance (maybe)
Poker face (I don't really like it but it's original)

Bad Songs:
Everything else

In each case, the songs play out and burn out and die in glorious brightness.

Taylor Swift's songs are enduring and engaging, as they are both catchy and lyrically substantive.

Virtually all of Taylor Swift's songs on her album are unique and great in their own way. I mean, it's pretty amazing actually.

This coming from someone who likes a total of 3 country singers. Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and occasional Trace Adkins.

Are you just talking about her hits or have you listened to LGG's albums? For good songs I would add:

Dance in the Dark <-- Probably her best song
Paper Gansta
I Like it Rough
The Fame
Starstruck <-- Another excellent song
Brown Eyes
Speechless

Of the 22 songs on her two albums, there are only 3 I don't really like:

Love game - Just not my style
Teeth - Can't stand this one
Telephone - Not a great song to begin with, Beyonce destroys it.

Alicia Keys looks better and has more talent then both of them combined. Gaga looks like a dude, and Taylor has the body of Micheal Cera, tiny tiddies & no ass/hips = a boy.

Paper Gangsta was OK for about 10 listens, the rest were boring or bad. Half of them sound like straight rips from Blaqk Audio.

Lady KAKA, sigh ... What has happened to the quality of music these days...

When i step on the tail of a cat , the cat sounds more musically gifted then lady kaka.

My farts sound better then lady kaka.

When the springs of my bed squeak while humping a woman, it sounds better then lady kaka.

The drill of the dentist sounds more like music then the songs of lady kaka !

Enough talent to sell 20 million albums in 3 years.

I would rather my daughter look up to LGG: uninhibited, expressive, creative, original, fighting for gay rights, and using substances (like alochol, tobacoo, cocaine) in a responsible way, as opposed to a Lindsay Lohan.

You see it from the wrong perspective :
Enough idiots to sell 20 million albums in three years too.

I'd have to agree with this. I must be getting old or something, but every song I've heard from lady gaga sounds like a crappy rave song for idiots on drugs. Of course, that's no surprise since she's an admitted drug addict. I'm not a big fan, but I'd take "plain" Taylor Swift over a demented freak any day of the week.

she's an admitted former drug addict. i doubt she's still a drug addict. if she is, that sucks, but it doesn't make her any less awesome.

but in reality anybody who can't appreciate her talent is probably only hating because its the popular thing to do.

Huh? I don't like GaGa's music because I'm not really into dance/club music.

Although, "Telephone" is an interesting song... :hmm:
