I've had this idea in the back of my mind since High School (I'm 30-something now). I've always wanted a shark on my shoulder. Never really found one I liked... I designed a tribal shark myself once, but then realized the tribal stuff was a trend that would fade. Sigh. Then I came up with having a rippling ocean surface on my arm all around near my shoulder, with a shark's dorsal fin sticking up. Perfect!

Then I thought about things for a moment... I wasn't worried about the pain of the needle on my shoulder or the outside of my arm, but this band would be about 3" below my armpit... I grabbed a paper clip, bent one leg out, and poked myself gently in the area inside my arm the band would go...

OUCH!!!

N/M... I'm a wussy...

you can do it. it's all mind over matter. i have a band around my right bicep and the inside arm parts were definitely more sensitive but you can control your reaction to the pain.

Getting tattooed on a part with a decent amount of meat is supposed to be a lot less painful than somewhere close to the bone like your shoulder blade. I've only gotten one tattoo so far (on my right arm) and it wasn't that painful. I did have a friend who got a gorgeous tattoo between her shoulder blades on the spine and she said it hurt like hell.

I have this tatooed on my back (sans word). It's my middle name.

At least you know what you it means, I can't believe the number of people who get Chinese Character tattoos and don't know the hell it means.
I tell people with Chinese tats that I speak Chinese and their tat says "Pork Fried Rice" :)

I did see one hippy dude with a tat he said means "Earth" when in fact it was the Chinese word for "Dirt" -- oops!

I think the Chinese word for "dirt" can also be interpretted as "earth". Then again, I think the word for "dirt" can also be used to mean "low class" or "country bumpkin".

Oh you mean like mine here? Decided to go big for my first tattoo. Took about 2.5 hours. Feeling that needle bounce right off the bone hurt a LOT. But I figured if I flinched the guy would mess up the tat, so I just went with the pain. The guy couldn't believe I was so still during the process and that it was my first tattoo.

Nice tattoo, big for a first timer as well. Mine was only 3 inches across, but alot of detail.

When are you going to get
this one? ;)

LOL! How geeky would that be? Get a tattoo of my forums avatar. What happens if I ever decide to change avatars? Tattoo a big X over it and get the new one?
