I normally use my debt card locally. My bank pushed back when I requested a new card, but I didn't give in. Bank of American automatically issued my wife and I new credit cards, even though we hadn't used them at Target during the original time period. Since I talked to the bank and they tried to convince me not to replace the card, I have completely stopped using my debt card.

I won't be shopping at Target in the future, except with cash.

I'm concerned about having Redcards. Target has my SSN and my wife's SSN. I am wondering if that data was compromised and if I am now at risk for identity fraud. It sounds like every bit of data Target had anywhere was potentially compromised.

wife used our debit card there during the time in question. I called the bank and had them issue new cards / pins proactively. I don't care what they say, it's tied to my bank account, not taking chances.

wife's coworker had two $1000 charges charged to her HSA debit card after getting a prescription filler at Tarjay

As far as I understand it, yes that data was taken. The claims were that the data is encrypted, but not knowing the type of encryption and whether it is even worth a damn I couldn't say whether or not it's already been decrypted.

Claims of more stores. I'm getting new cards issued due to Target. I figure maybe it should be an annual thing anyways. :\ New cards, clean slate.

EVERY bit of information Target has was compromised. Target is merely doing damage control. You are definitely at risk of identity theft. On the bright side, how quickly can 70 million identities be stolen?

Stolen, yeah, but actually put into operation? This kind of scope would require selling blocks of hundreds of thousands if not millions, which would in turn require breaking down in retail packages where thieves would actually buy a manageable number of accounts and begin to steal. Unless the same people have figured out how to automate the process, which would be really scary.

Heard a lady speaking of this very thing who pointed out that the scope of the theft will revise the way such stolen information is used. She speculated that some portion which cannot be used before the cards are replaced will be recycled and sold months later by scammers who will pose as credit watch agencies or banks. Using your stolen information, these people will attempt to convince you to divulge current account information.

Doing fine, Robert, hope you are the same.
