As far as a TANK driving on the pavement, then ....yes, they tear up the pavement rather well. I remember having to be very careful in Germany to not tear things up any more than necessary to get to the railhead. Inevitably, damage was done and the Germans would be up all hours repairing it. APC, AFV etc, are all far better on the pavement than tanks, which weigh in at a little over 60 tons versus just about 30 tons for the Bradleys, and about 14 tons for the M113 (APC). Immense weight and damage is just one of many reasons that you don't often see M1A1 Tanks doing parades and such (not to mention the noise and heat from the turbines).

Yup. LAV-25's are also about 14 tons IIRC...

Oh, and another thing I just remembered pertinent to why they wear helmets even though they're just driving around LA: the helmets also contain the microphone and earpiece with which they communicate. You try yelling over that engine 😉

I remember we the LA riots happened and the Marine Corps went in to control the situation....
We took more than just a few tanks with us thats for sure......

wow,
what a bunch of idiots. Why did those people walk in the middle of the street to block those APCs?? 😕

Not to mention that the guys inside the APC wanna stay in the US as much as the protesters want em to...
