Talk to me about AT&T U-verse

I am just about done with Comcast. Billing issues, connectivity issues, etc, etc. I think it's time to try something new. U-verse appears to be the only decent alternative in my neck of the woods.

We've had U-Verse for about 4 months. We're not all that thrilled with the overall service.

TV picture quality seems worse than with Dish Network. There's no real change with internet since we already had AT&T DSL, and the same for phone service.

AT&T gets the bills wrong every month, and in fact, when our free month of HBO ended a while back, they also turned off our HD package. That took from Friday to Monday to get resolved.

Since we're not locked into a contract, we're actually considering going back to Dish.

Is U-verse FIOS from AT&T?

Anyways...anything is better than comcast. I just moved back to comcast from Fios. Fios was awesome. Comcast...not so much. I hate having on demand not work everyday. I get the same code, "CL-14, call comcast". I call Comcast....they have no idea what that code means. They then send signal out and everything is fixed 15 minutes later. Problem is, 24 hours later, i get the same issue. WTF....I can't put up with this much longer.

I switched from Comcast to U-Verse with the highest TV package they have. Overall I am satisfied with the service. Only big thing was a problem at the start because the initial tech didn't do a proper install job and apparently cut corners...second tech that came out was very helpful and explained everything. Ended up being water in the line coming into the building.

I do notice that some shows do "hiccup" a bit. It almost seems like someone puts on a strobe light. It usually only lasts 5-10 seconds, but thats about it.

Overall, I am happy though.

I live near Chicago BTW.

I switched to comcast from u-verse.

Had multiple connection outages (sometimes Internet, sometimes TV, sometimes both), hardware failures, some other stuff I forget, got angry and cancelled. I think a lot of others have had better luck than I did.

I just made the decision between Comcast and U-Verse and chose Comcast. Apparently the U-Verse picture quality blows and I heard something about only being able to record/watch 1 or 2 HD channels at a time in the whole house.

Comcast has been fine so far, but I'm sure there will be issues as there will be with anybody. I really wanted DirecTV, but my apartment faces north :(

Im ust be the luckiest SOB on earth. I have never had any issues with my cable companies(Mediacom, Charter). And I pay very little for a 16mbps line.

Had Comcast, switched over to Uverse, no regrets. I have internet and TV service through them... internet is solid, HD is stable and picture is really good. I'm new to DVR's, but like the multi HD record.

Like all providers, sometimes you'll have a hiccup w/ your bill, but they've fixed pretty much immediately when I call them up.

I had major billing issues with AT$T, got sick of waiting a minimum of 45 minutes on hold for any call and switched to comcast and found much better service (Detroit suburb), moving to a new house that does have UVerse, so I am, against my better judgement going to try it out (getting installed Monday).

The 'reception' lately has gotten very spotty, but I'm moving so can't be bothered to call and have them fix it.

The house I bought has never had cable of any sort, so the installation was going to be another $99, and comcast tacked another $15 or so a month on to the bill, they are currently using uverse.

I've got U-Verse, and I've had no problems. Fios anything is going to be better than comcast. The modem/router they gave me is actually halfway-decent as well, though it doesn't support 802.11n.

I don't have the TV service so I can't help you there.

I don't know much about U-Verse but I've never had good luck with AT&T for the billing issues mentioned above. They always get the bills wrong, services wrong and their customer service reps don't seem to care. Granted, I wouldn't go to Comcast because their a bunch of money grubbing bastards as well, but if that's the only alternative...

The ONE thing with Comcast that has been decent is the ability to get an actual person on the line at least trying to fix my issues. Getting the issues sorted out has been another story, of course.

I went from TWC to Uverse & I am very happy. My only issue is the STB's hdmi outputs crush black levels. I love having a live ethernet jack in each box.

switched from TWC to Uverse 4 months or so ago.
No overall complaints with Uverse.
It's cheaper, faster inet and I have more channels.
PQ is certainly lower though thats for sure.
I love the watch recorded TV in any room.
I hate that I can only pause/rewind live TV in 1 room (with the DVR).
Wired/wireless gateway is great
I love the fact I can add/remove services online with a click of a button and actually SEE the price difference right there and then.

I would not go back to TWC at all.

I set up U-Verse for an ex co-worker last year. It was the weirdest shit the network cable went from the wall directly to her NIC. No modem, no router. The cable boxes have some sort of router built into them?

UVerse is great where I am. Definitely a superior service.

Picture quality is good, Total Home DVR is awesome, and the ability to DVR 4 shows at a time is great. The Internet speeds are good and I've never had an outage in the year that I've been with them.

I have had Uverse for about 8 months now... had Comcast for like 8 years, and hated all 8. There was ALWAYS a problem with the picture quality, internet issues, phone issus, billing issues... just a worthless company all around. The Uverse hardware is not perfect, but with us, our ONLY complaint is that it is a bit on the expensive side compared to Dish or Directv. Aside from cost, the actual platform works very well... actually, I take that back, the wireless signal on the router isn't all that strong. It drops out after about 20 feet, it didn't used to do that either, not sure what's up with that...

Anyway, I rate Uverse 8/10... compared to Comcast, 100/10. Honestly, I think you either get lucky with any service these days or you don't.

I just got U-verse set up in my apartment and ditched TWC.
The good:
Stable Ping times (TWC would have 50ms fluctuations)
Good picture quality
Extremely nice channel guide and online DVR programming features

The bad:
Only able to pause live TV on the main cable box, there are workarounds but they are annoying.
Lack of BBC America HD
Only able to tune/record 2 HD streams at a time. This varies by how far you are from the fiber node. The closer you are the more HD streams you can do.

Went from Comcast to Uverse maybe 2ish years ago.

I have the U200 tv package, and 18mbit internet package.

DVR is nice, my internet connection is consistent, pings are good, never a billing issue.

My only complaint is that they call me and try to upsell me to more tv channels. And that they advertise 24mbit service on their website, but at least last time I checked, it wasn't available to me.

I can't agree there are a lot of billing issues, but you are dead on correct about the TV picture quality. Looks like shit, but for the price I tend to look the other way.

Now, where I am moving to we don't have the AT&T Uverse option, so I am checking out DirecTV as they are supposed to have the best PQ of the satellite vendors, but I will make that judgment over the next 24 months.

DirecTV is definitely the way to go if it's available to you.
