I've now had the GTI for 6 years. 6-7 years and I start to get the new car itch.

I would keep the GTI as a really nice beater. I've got the 73 mustang for the cruise nights and car shows with family. This would fill that 3rd garage stall and be my nice weather performance driver.

They were originally asking $35500, and are now down to $30,969. I'm guessing most people don't go to an Acura dealership to look for a BMW.

Its the color I want with Navi, M Sport, and cold weather packages. Also about a year left on factory warranty.

I know the HPFP has been an issue on the N54 and N55 engines, but since its still under warranty that shouldn't be a problem. Anything else to watch out for?
 
Boring grey color, automatic transmission, New England car (rust belt). Car fax shows first service at 11,000 miles? Then sold at auction. It was a lease. Beat on maybe? Repairs will be expensive. It's not really stylistically all that interesting.

(I'm just trying to talk you out of it here, it looks nice)
 
Off lease would be my biggest issue for a turbo motor. Guarantee it was run hard before the motor had time to warm up.

Modern BMWs handle this better than in the past, but still not a great thing. I would definitely have it inspected by a BMW dealer, including checking for previous ecu faults.
 
Almost every BMW/Audi I look at that's 2-3 years old was a lease. BMW service interval was 15K so the first service at 11K isn't surprising. I'd never do that. Every 5K for me.
 
The only draw back that I can see is that it's (in all likelihood) the N55 (IMO N54 is preferred). I wouldn't hesitate as it's a really good price considering the options.

I wouldn't worry too much about it being beat-up as a lease return with only 11k miles on it.

I'm a 2010 135i (M sport package , 6 speed) owner - I love my car. It is more fun to drive than my C6.

Audi TT/TTS - too close to the GTI I have (engine/trans)
Audi S5 - too much $ (42-45K around me)
BMW 135 - smaller and lighter, I like the looks.
BMW 335 - heavier and don't like the looks as much
Cayman S w/ PDK - too much $

In my area, I've seen (including mine) a grand total of 2 A5s, 0 S5s, 1 RS5, and maybe 10 of each of A7 and A8s. They just aren't very popular, at least in my area. The amount of 3 series though... Hundreds if not thousands.

I'd look at like a G37S or a 370z before a 135 personally. Although, I am not sure if Nissan uses a DCT in those (I am pretty sure the GT-R has one though). But, if I'd also look for a manual first and foremost.
 
If I wanted a manual I would have kept my dads GT500 I had for 9 months. Just not interested, DCT is faster and smoother.

370Z and G37 are both traditional automatics with manual control.

I would have picked up one with DCT too, couldn't find one that was reasonable at the time I was purchasing - they're lots of fun to drive with the rev matching.

lol, sorry to hear that. Though your OP said you wanted to be talked out of it. What better way than to remove it from the market altogether.
