Talk me out of the Focus RS

Mustang Premium interior looks miles better than the Focus RS. Hell for that kind of coin I will take an Ecoboost Premium Mustang with Performance Package and a level 2 tune. Still come out cheaper and push more HP.

Buy it if you like it. These days the average F-150 sells for $44K. I see no problem paying that for an awesomely fun hot hatch.

Only catch is you get AWD with the Focus, which is great in the snow.

OP has an S2000. I highly doubt snow is a concern.

For the money, I'd get an Ecoboost myself. I live in snow country, so I ended up with a Jeep Renegade AWD, which has served me well this winter, but the Ecoboost was a close second - just didn't want to try snow driving with RWD 😀

I was really really impressed with the Ecoboost; I liked the sound, power, and fuel economy. Plus the insane mods you can do to it! Maybe someday...

Much like the STi, the tires that car comes with would be absolutely horrible in the snow, even dangerously so. You would need a set of extra wheels with snow tires on them and you would need rims that will still clear the brakes which might be both expensive and really limit your options for choice of wheels.

If I bought an RS I'd be tempted to pony up for the Cup2 tires. Amazing rubber 🙂 they will only last about 10-15k car on this car though and won't be nearly as good in the rain.

After careful consideration I'm going to wait for this car to come out a year and possibly get one at the end of the year if there is still one sitting on a dealer lot.

Thanks guys

I really like golf interiors. Can golf R's be had for massive discounts?

Dealer I just took my passat for an oil change had two. No markup on the sticker. I didn't ask but seeing how I was there on a saturday morning for 2 hours and only saw one person I'd gather they would be willing to deal.

I'm sorry, but using "Ford Focus" and any number more than $20k causes my brain to explode like those Jet.com commercials.

Just don't do it ...

Hope I helped.

Then he'd be waiting another 5 years. The RS's only come out towards the end of the product cycle. However, the interior (and exterior slightly) did get a revamp for the current production year.

So? New model should be out in a year or two. You think ford will halt the rs on the new model or something? The gt350r came out pretty quick after the new mustang came out.

I think we all (or at least most of us) can agree that base Focus is POS and that base Impreza is not.

Ford Focus was on C&D's Top Ten for 2012 & 2013 - it also won every compact car comparison until the all new Mazda 3 came out in 2014.

The third-generation Ford Focus has hardly been challenged in the three years it’s been on sale. It has comfortably driven away with three comparison-test wins against a total of six competitors, including the previous-generation 3. But the Ford has finally met its match with the new Mazda 3, giving up its title in a 15-point loss.

The Impreza interior is complete trash compared to a Focus, its underpowered, styling is bland, and handles poorly. Impreza gets the nod on AWD and a slightly more spacious interior.

No, but the St and other performance versions would come out before the RS. Havent heard much about a new focus, but probably aiming for 2018 model year meaning unlikely to see another rs until 2020. It's just how they divert engineering resources.

Yep, they generally release the RS several years into a new model release. The '18 Focus will be a new platform, not just a refresh, so if history is an indicator the '17 RS might be the only RS version for the current platform.

The GT350 in this context is analogous to the ST, both of which came out a year and change after their generation came out.

The RS is more the equivalent to the anticipated GT500, which is probably 2 years out still

I drove a Focus Titanium a couple summers ago and was quite impressed with it actually. Didn't end up buying one though, went with the Camry Hybrid instead for better fuel economy.
