Taliban (Who are they?) Interesting read..

<< Does anybody know who is responsible for creating, funding, arming and encouraging Taliban in 80's?? >>

Yes, America's tragic mistake. However, arguably, funding the Taliban led to Soviet defeat which help weaken them... of course eventually communist russia fell... so, at that point in time, it was in the US best interest to fund the Taliban.

Now its in thier best interest to kill them.

America and the Taliban: Funding them in the 80s, killing them in 2001.

Sounds good to me...

When do we start?

We obviously can't predict what our help will do 20 years later. We seem to have done alright with most of Europe and a few Asian countries. I never hear anyone giving us credit when our support leads to a prosperous productive society.

Dude..... They flog women for walking in public with men who they are not related too, or even just walking in public in general. Are you say don't hate them. If someone flogs an innocent woman for walking in public, I will HATE them.

<< do not hate them for they are different >>

That is by your standards of living, they have a different standard. They are a different culture which is not a part of ours so we should respect their own lives and their own actions regardless if we think its wrong.

FrancesBeansRevenge: I was always wondering why so many Americans are suffering from the god complex... What makes you think, that you have other nations at your disposal???

And just where do you draw the line here? So the Nazi's were "a different culture which is not part of ours so we should respect their own lives and their own actions regardless of if we think it is is wrong."

I do not believe that radical Islamic fundamentalism is instrinsic to the Islamic religion any more than right wing American religious based white supremacy is instrinsic to Christianity. But I do believe that there are fundamental standards of good and evil, right and wrong, and that the hate and anger that courses through radical Islamic fundamentalism is fundamentally evil. To the extent that the Taliban share such sentiments, or harbor those who do, they are themselves fundamentally evil. And we see that evil in the way they treat their women.

There is no way I will respect that.

While I am reserving final judgment for reasonable evidence that Osama Bin Ladin is behind this, his ties to Taliban are so strong that if he is responsible, they share his guilt and should be punished.

That is absurd. If someone is beating a child and they think it is acceptable, would you stop them?

We have a moral obligation to prevent and abhor atrosities such as those mentioned.

OK.... Hitler's culture said that all Jews should be stuck in concentration camps, or killed. Are you saying that because Hilter's culture was different we should respect him killing Jews? America didn't think so and that's why we worked to eleminate him and his mindset. The Taliban will kill it's own people for walking around at night, or even in public during the day. I think there is a certain point that you have to draw a line between was is right and wrong. Part of what is happening in Afganistan's culture is wrong, not their entire culture. If you want to say I hate them because they are different, so be it. Czar, at what point do you stop respecting a culture because of what it does, if any?

OUTSTANDING POST TAUREN

blcjr that was my take, thanks for putting it in words...

How they treat their own people is indicative of the respect they would show for anyone else.. If they
despise their own, how could anyone be of any value??...

TonTo yw..

I say evacuate the women, bomb the living hell out of the Taliban.
Take control of Afganishtan and reform those who wants better live.
better yet, make afganishtan a women controlled country.
that'll teach 'em !
