Taking the Water Cooling Plunge

The use of TIM instead of solder is a proven cause of unnecessarily high temps in IB and HW. Delidding is the easiest method (complex = phase change, etc) of getting lower temps but its entirely up to you if you're willing to void warranty and/or end up with an expensive keychain. I didn't delid mine because I needed it to be reliable and trouble free.

As long as I have reasonable belief that my processor is working fine, I'm good to void the warranty. Out of all the PC components that I use, I don't think I've ever had a CPU go south on me. The only thing that's ever gone kaput that wasn't a mechanical item (e.g. fans or hard drives) would be chips on motherboards. 😛 With the BSOD issue though (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR if you're curious which error), I just don't think it's wise to mess with it right now.

I really would like to figure out what's going on with the PWM stuff. It seems so strange that the CPU port turns it off and the Chassis port just turns it to 11! I ended up unplugging it because I grew tired of the water noise. The pumps themselves were no noisier than the 9 120mm fans. 😛 Fortunately, I just stumbled upon a PWM-based fan a few minutes ago, which gives me something to test my ports with!
