I face the same issue here, I have a good plan to run but I can not stick with it. There are a number of factor such as traffic jam, friend, coffee, beer...
But I see your effort and I think you will archieve your goal

I got something like plantar fascitis after a heel injury. Things tightened up in reaction to the injury I think. Rest and occasionally testing it out gingerly did not help. You have to attack things like that. I learned how to run better with more of a forefoot or flat foot strike instead of a heel strike, and the big part was I stretched the hell out of that area with a calf stretch against a wall. The more the bottom of my foot starting acting up, the harder I would stretch it. That did the trick.
 
Got a 5k lined up on Turkey day. Heading back home to IL and running with an old friend from high school who I ran cross country with. He's looking to shoot for 20:00. I'm hoping to be somewhere within a minute of him. 🙂
 
Those Thanksgiving 5K races are always one of the highlights of the year for me. I was hoping to shoot for a sub 21:00 this year but I'm still on the mend from my half. I'm just going to enjoy this one and take whatever I can get. Hopefully something in the 24:00 area which is more like a training run.
 
Course was short, not even a full 3. Did 20:02. OK time, third in my age group. But felt like I left a lot out there.

Nice run, even for a short course. I did a 5K on Turkey Day with the kids, and my two oldest daughters and I all PR'ed. The course was fast - totally flat, with only a few turns - and the weather was perfect, right at 40 degrees or so. My son ran with his 7yo cousin to encourage him, which was a nice gesture. Proud of all of them!
 
That's awesome you have your kids involved! Honestly, part of the reason I got back in was to show my 7 year old daughter that there are some things you can be good at through hard work rather than just pure ability. She has no confidence and is lazy. Which is a terrible combo. But the kid has one of the most beautiful running strides I've seen. She's done one "kids run" that around 1000 meters. Out of a couple hundred kids she was the 1st girl to cross. She has the genes and the ability...she's just not motivated and thinks "she's terrible".

Running is perfect for her. It's a sport that really does reward the hard workers. Sure there's some natural talent freaks (my wife for example) but really it's about miles on the pavement and busting your ass.
