This is interesting, a speed test done by Gizmodo in 12 major metropolitan centers shows ATT is the speed leader:

http://gizmodo.com/5428343/our-2009...modo/full+(Gizmodo)&utm_content=Google+Reader

Definitely not definitive, but interesting nonetheless.

I'm intrigued by T-Mobile lagging behind as they as they are apparently, because they have advanced their UMTS network further than AT&T has.

However, we knew one of the UMTS networks would be the fastest - it's a given - where you can get the speed, it's the fastest. CDMA2000 EVDO cannot touch the advancements of UMTS. After EVDO RevA, Verizon stopped the CDMA2000 upgrades and starting planning an LTE upgrade - by far a better route and one all 4G anxious customers should appreciate, versus sticking to small 3G updates.

LTE can't come fast enough. I should be able to get a replacement for the Droid in July 2011 that will support both technologies. :)

Some day in a magical land all devices will have lte chips. Our tvs, our phones, our computers....ahh true wireless broadband.

The resolution on the Droid is by far superior than that of the iPhone. I turned on my 3GS the other day to get it ready for sale, and the first thing I noticed was how poor the resolution was on it. Every thing looked pixelated compared to using my Droid.

I don't miss my 3GS at all, for what I need in a cell phone, Droid Does.

Yeah, I shoulda made clear I own both. Small text that is easily readable on the Droid is impossible to read on the Apple.

sorry those DROID screens aren't even impressive.

Take an HTC Android phone and bam. So much better. Raw Google experience on Droid is just bland and its selling point is hardware. But it's not like there aren't OTHER Coretex A8 phones out there....

The iPhone does pretty well against the Droid. People are acting like the Droid is the best thing since sliced bread. Kinda like when the iPhone came out. Gee, have you used HTC Sense and TouchFlo 3D extensively? Have you guys checked out HTC's Touch HD2? What about other widget-based UIs like TouchWiz? Or LG's S-Class interface? It's like the raw google experience uncustomized Droid is the ultimate UI now when it's really... just basic... Android.

I saw some basic tests done by people showing ATT to have better speeds which does make sense because HSDPA speeds > EVDO. But PC World did their test too and....

ATT was far from impressive. However, your test shows an experiment in 12/09 versus PC World's summer test. Maybe AT&T has really improved their network significantly. I did explain that dropped calls were a huge problem in the 2.x OS and that has contributed significantly to the iPhone's poor image in that department. Perhaps things HAVE changed. But of course, because it's Apple and because things have gone wrong before, and because it's AT&T, people will continue to throw out the same arguments over and over again about the network sucking real bad, the iPhone sucking, dropped calls, blah blah blah. multitasking...

Where did you get that T-Mobile has advance their 3G network further than AT&T has? T-Mobile has been playing catchup for the longest, and still has a ways to go.

Verizon isn't the only carrier going LTE, AT&T is too. Verizon gets more press about it, because they said the public would start to see it 4Q of this year. They quickly changed their tune after all of the data card makers told them good luck with that, as they didn't forsee having a LTE product ready before 2010. AT&T said all along that 2011 would be their LTE rollout, and that they would do a HSPA 7.2 upgrade in the meantime, upgrading their backbone in the process to prepare for LTE.

Have you seen the Droid? If you want to stay with Verizon, it is the best thing since sliced bread. There is no other VZ phone that can touch it, right now. For me, it's no iPhone though. I think the keyboard down right sucks, and I was shock to see that the Droids camera isn't any better than my iPhone.

Which HTC Android phone that's available now is as good?? The Touch HD2 doesn't count because its' a windows mobile phone, and that kills it IMO. Please tell me you aren't serious about LG's phone...

Dunno what Droid screen you were looking at, but everyone I have seen has been impressive and quite nice for what it is.

Android basic may be a touch bland but I like it due to it's clean and simple interface. Plus, if I don't like it then I can easily change it to something far more radical. I've seen some impressive stuff already, which is cool considering how Android hasn't been terribly popular until now.

Besides, Android seems to be updating and evolving a lot faster than any other OS out there and the next ones look to be adding some visual touches to the mix.

I hate the lag HTC UI brings. It's wonderful, but a Droid with any of the alternatives seem snappier. I love how you assume that you are the only guy around here that thinks you have used more than smartphone.
And those are legitimate complaints. Dropped calls in a major suburb are bullshit.
