I just picked up the new droid phone from Verizion today and all I can say is WOW!!!.

Hands down best phone web browser I've ever used. You get the full up internet with it and the touch and drag behavior makes scrolling up down left right an absolute breeze.HTC touch-flo can eat it's heart out.

And there is absolutely no end to the apps you can install on this thing. Its absolutely sick!! literally 1000's of apps and most anything you could possibly want is free!!

I got an app to do speedtest.net (getting 1.5-2Mbps to the phone BTW)
-Got an app to track live football scores
-Loaded a bar code/comparison shopper application that scans UPC bar codes of anything and then comparison shops it across all the local stores AND on line to get you the best price and then it will even give you directions to the local stores...

-Got a NES emulator
-Loaded a graphing calculator app
-A wifi sniffer
-a gps digital speedometer
-a free tethering program
-There's even an app I found to tell you when your girl is about to be on the rag!!
-There were apps to track flights and truely 1000's of others that do anything and everthing in-between all for FREE!

-Interfaceing via usb is incredibly simple
-Audio playback is very good with the built in speaker
-"normal" Headphone jack - check
-the slider keyboard is as good as my old HTC phone (nothing like the cheap fake display models)
-voice recognition is unlike anything I've seen. Theres an app that comes loaded called car home and you can literally ask it for directions like you're having a conversation. Tell it "directions to pizza hut in tucson arizona" and it comes up with it - no mistakes and then it launches into google maps and starts spitting out voice enabled turn by turn GPS guided navigation

BTW, did I mention this thing comes with a 16GB micro-SD flash card installed and has a 32GB card available too?

Camera's not bad either. 5Mp

Anywho you obviously haven't tried other phones if you think the Droid has the best web browser. Try the iPhone or Palm Pre. Then you'll know what great web browsing is.

The palm pre is great if you enjoying squinting and have the hands of a 6 year old. Feels like i'm gonna break the dam thing.
 
what zero said, i used my friends droid. it's superior and all, but i prefer the touch browsing that stupid apple patented.

I don't know... this thing is pretty good and I've had a few smart phones. It comes up in full res and you and zoom right down into anything that's too small for you.

I was very impressed to say the least.

Squinting??? The Palm Pre shows more of a page than the iPhone or the Droid. Android is great but far from the best thing. The Droid is the best Android phone to date but Android isn't the best os. Far from it.

Yeah they were wanting to change my plan out for more than I wanted to pay. Luckily I was a pre-existing Alltel customer w/ a data plan so I was able to hold their feet to the fire and roll over my old Alltel plan (got to keep my evenings at 7:00 and saved a bit on the service agreement too).

NP, it's just gotten stupid around here. First there was ATOT and that was good, and then that wasn't good enough for some so P&N was born, then came The Garage, and Love and Relationships and spin-off this and spin-off that.

To be hones I didn't even know that the Phones and Gadgets/Yet-Another-ATOT-Spinoff-Forum even existed till you said something.

It's just too much to keep up with anymore.

I miss the old days.
 
I really like my MyTouch, but I have Droid envy. I dropped Verizon because I was unhappy with their plans and their love of neutering phones. Suddenly as soon as switch they bring out one of the best phones of the year and I somewhat regret switching to T-Mobile. Fortunately TMO has good coverage (and 3G) where I live, so really all I'm missing out on is a more powerful CPU (and heftier rates).

If I wasn't on contract I might switch back. I'll just have to wait and see how coverage and phone selection compares in 2 years. Ugh... such a long time for a gadget lover, but I just can't justify the cost of a phone off contract.

Yeah, the Verizion plans actually pissed me off some. Like they wouldn't do any included Friends and Family unless I stepped up to a 1400 min contract. Funny... I got to use MyCircle with my 500 minute Alltel plan and never went over... why would I want to change that?

Then... they flat out don't offer early evenings starting at 7:00 so that pissed me off too.. And my Alltel plan w/data was costing me $85.00 a month and they wanted me to step up to this newj 1400 min plan that was $119.00 and then another $30.00 for data on top of that just for me to maintain the same relative functionality as before. And they were pushing hard for me to sign up a new plan with the phone.

Honestly had I not been able to make them cave in and allow me to keep my existing Alltel plan with the new phone I probably would not have done it either.
 
You say piss on the iphone, and the list a bunch of things that the iphone does better than the droid. I really like Android, but next time you make such a statement know what the fuck you're talking about.

Battery life! Its all about the battery. A dead phone is of no use, whatever the features. I look into battery life first of all, then at the features.
 
meh.. droid is overhyped... if the US had been getting the awesome cell phones the rest of the world has been getting for years, then the droid is just another phone.... woohoo.

Then you shouldn't look at any smartphone. No good smartphone is going to have great battery life.
