Okay picked up one at Walmart for 249 (16gb version) and $24 for a 3 year warranty. After installing my standard apps and 3 games I'm down to 10gb...GEEZ! I didn't realize how much these apps take up. Bloatware helps too. I can clean these up later.

A couple things I've noticed so far.

_The home screen doesn't rotate. You have to root and install an App for that to work.
_Gmail doesn't allow me to zoom on emails...grr this old man needs to see somethings in large font.
_Now I see what others are saying about the one sound bar. If you hold the N7 (no not you N7 Member) sideways watching a movie or something your hand covers some of the speaker...DOH! Plus it comes from one side. Not a show stopper.
_It's not feather light
_Response to everything is FAST!
_Screen looks good.

I'm using an app to play Mkv's but I can't seem to get 1080p movies to play without skipping. Theoretically Wireless N has enough bandwidth to carry it, but I've not been able to get this on any wireless N device. Is this something I shouldn't even try for with this or other devices?

I have 15 days to return this for a refund.

You can adjust text size in gmail settings, and 1080p might be too much for WiFi depending on the bitrate. What player are you using ? Also you can install an alternate launcher (nova is my favorite) if you want home screen rotation without an app running in the background

I'm using MX Player (not committed to it). Do you recommend another one?

An alternate launcher like Nova or Apex will allow you to use the N7 in landscape with no rooting needed.

Huh? I honestly don't know how this device could be any lighter and still have a glass screen. It's featherweight compared to the iPad 3.

Great specs on the N7 but no HDMI and no SD slot= a no buy for me, kinda sad having a kick-ass SOC but no way to expand memory..

You can expand using the USB, but requires rooting.

I've looked for this hardware/software and can't touch the price for one with HDMI. Good Luck, but if you do fine one let me know within 12 days ; )

What makes it so much better than the transformer in your opinion?

Have you tried Dice Player? I've used Dice, MX, and Mobo Players, and found the best compatibility and performance for what I've tried to play with Dice on this device.

Dice is still problematic with a lot of my files. For several of my MKV files, it says it's not compatible. Dunno why. Note though most of my files are HD, with lots 1080p, with several over 4 GB. (I don't want to re-encode everything, and Tegra 3 is supposedly more than capable of 1080p H.264 up to 40 Mbps, according to Nvidia.)

He's hoping VLC gets working quickly, and gets well hardware optimized. Right now VLC works with some workarounds on lower bitrate files, but chokes hard on 720p and above. I think it may be trying to do everything in software, as it's super slow.

Can't you do MHL through the uUSB for HDMI output?

EDIT: Oh snap, no MHL. Huge oversight.

I have this left screen lifting issue, barely... It's something like < 0.25 mm, and I may not have noticed it had there not been descriptions of it. I'm not sure if it's worth returning over this unless it gets worse.

However, is this a design defect, or a manufacturing defect? I'd hate to return this, and then have the exact same problem. I wonder how common this issue is. It seems pretty common. BTW, some people say that once they've opened up their Nexus 7 units, they found that three screws were completely missing on the left side.

BTW, a return means I have to backup and then unroot this thing before I send it back, and then root the new one again and restore from that old backup. Pain.

Wow mine is good. Sorry to hear about yours. Factory reset and get another one. Screws? I can't see any screws in mine at all.

Love my N7 (rooted of course), perfect size for me as it is small enough to carry around unlike the Ipad 3.

Everyone should get the game "AURALUX" cant stop playing and my wife has been ignoring her IPAD 3 to play this game (not available for Apple).

When rooted I can use my wired xbox 360 controller to play games (Max Payne).

I knew I wanted 7 inch tablet for tis portablity and ease of handling.

NOOK color--> Samsung Galaxy tab (orig 7 inch)-->N7

CONS:
No SD card
No front facing camera
No Hdmi
