What's up with these insane prices? The ATT dealers around here sell the T68 for 149.95, and the T68i for 179.95. This is with no rebates or specials whatsoever. However, when I go to circuit city or the good guys, the regular t68 costs 199.95!

Amazon has 2 mail-in rebates off of their $299.99 price for the T68, making the final cost $49.99!

- $50 rebate from Voicestream that expires on 8/31. It requires activation of an account with a service plan of $29.99 or higher.
- $200 dollar rebate from Amazon that expires on 8/05 (Hurry up everyone). It requires activation (sorry current subscribers).

That's an awesome deal for an awesome phone if you ask me.

Here's a link.

That would be a great deal if it was available, but if you search for "T68" at Amazon it shows that it is discontinued/no longer available and you can't add to cart. They've got the rebate, but they don't got the phone!

Well, Jeff, I clicked on the link that I posted, entered in a zip for Chicago (since I was pretty sure it was available there), and it is available there. It's just not available in your area.

I tried a Bay Area zip, a Los Angeles zip, a San Diego zip, and a Las Vegas zip. Not available at any of those. It is available in NY, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Arizona, Miami, and I'm sure a lot more. It just sucks for the California people (and the only part of Nevada that's worth a damn). I think this makes sense, since Voicestream/T-mobile is just starting to appear in the CA/NV area.

Most of the country can take advantage of this deal, but I can't. :-(

I looked at the $200 rebate and it also is a rebate for many other phones (not all at $200 though) and it could be good deals on those, too. Even for the Cali folk.

I clicked on the link and it says it's available in my area too... for $49, this is a hell of a phone! I also checked that link above about upgrading the firmware to the t68i, apparently the hardware is exactly the same and it's firmware upgradable... they are doing it for free in the UK, I'm unclear on whether they are doing it in the US though...

btw, voicestream OWNS cingular!

yes, so smart. what makes you think their service is better than cingular's? is that why voicestream/t-mobile will be using cingular towers in the areas they are launching their service?

As for the "Voicestream owns Cingular" comment, you should check out the howardforums, people who were miserable with cingular out west seem much happier with voicestream. Not nesecarily because the service is better (they say it is, but I don't really see how it could be), but because of things like amazingly good rate plans (39.99 for 1000 minutes and unlimited weekends), and tech support that actually knows what its talking about, is willing to deal with the customers, and is open 24/7.

i'm all over howardforums. heheheh! join me over there.....same sn (well almost).

you can get your t68m flashed to the t68i firmware and they will be the same exact phone. they have the same hardware too, except that the t68i has the e911 chip in it.

what does this e911 chip do? and how is it functionally different than whatever the other model has?

Well the first thing that comes to mind about e911 is /.'s article about a company pushing for software/rights to track anybody using their phone, since the e911 allows paramedics and others to find where you are, which they can't do today with cell phones.

As for the actual, practical uses, i dunno. :)

note that this can be combined with at least the $5 off $35 (google "$5 off $35" amazon), so with supersaver it comes out to $44.99 shipped AR, pretty hot for what's essentially their latest phone. any other higher denomination amazon coupons floating around?

edit: if you're still allowed to do the Associates against yourself, that's another 5% (14.75) off, so $30.24 AR.

I stand (sit) corrected - you guys are right, it is currently available with 1 to 2 weeks delivery time.

$300 out of pocket and then $250 back in rebates.

Nice Deal!
