I'll be trying this in the next few days. The first two thiefs had some brilliant gameplay.

the third is my favourite - incredible lighting effects and same great audio . . . otoh, Thief 2 was just too long with running back and forth across the same huge map just for the sake of "running back and forth" . . . still a great game and much better than the zombies of the original Thief.

i just started to look at the mod [being on dial-up and perpetually late in the morning for work] . . . have they improved the gfx over Thief II?

anyway, and thanks for the headsup!

do they still have the zombies like in the first game or is it more running in the shadows trying to avoid patrols and steal the jewels?

I agree that the 3rd game was the best in the series. That mental hospital level was just awesome. The 2nd was probably the weakest, but still solid. I'll have to check the mod out tonight (why didn't they make the mod for Theif 3 though?)

Shalebridge Cradle.... <shudders> arguably the scariest level in a video game, period.

Well, it took me long enough. :p

IF you like Thief series, it is a MUST HAVE. ;)

ANYWAY, it is a very nice full 13 level Expansion pak . . . You DO need the Thief 2 game and also need to have it patched to version 1.18 [the latest]. . . . the gfx engine is slightly improved over T2s but nothing like Thief - DS [they are making an unofficial eXPak for this one too]

just make SURE you get it from FilePlanet [or Bittorrent] - the others are corrupted . . . FP's new D/L manager is OK but will NOT resume if your connection gets "cut off" . . . i just clicked 'no' to installing FP's download applet and used LeechGet instead [since i am on dialup - it took over 30 hours for 655MB].

Also check out the Thief Forum if you are having issues [follow the OP's links - it is surprisingly playable and 'bug-free" [if you don't mind some minor workarounds].

i Can NOT believe anyone played - or noticed this. :p

It's not just an "ordinary" fan-mod . . . it's got some pretty impressive names behind this unofficial expansion pak - it took so long because it was done in the developers' "spare time"

. . the ONLY thing i can see that is weaker than Thief2 is the voice acting . . . although it's not Garrett, the main Chick and the story are more than passable . . . if you already own - and like Thief 2 - it's really pretty excellent - especially for a free D/L .

i find it incredible that some many loyal fans exist for Dark Engine Games - System Shock and Thief series . . . they are making a new UNoficial eXpansion Pak for Thief3 - DS also

i am barely into it . . . well a couple of hours . . . . and it is TOP notch - just like Thief 2 - big maps and sneaking all over the place to make sense of a puzzle within a puzzle.

gameplay is the same . . . graphics are the same as thief2, audio is much the same with the same hi-quality 'positioning', weapons are similar with a few nice additions, cutscenes are HIGH QUALITY and voice acting is ok [but not as good].

UNbelievable for a non official "fan made" expansion pak! those guys are awesome!! . . . even if it took 5 years, they have the 'thief atmosphere' right. i am really looking forward to the Thief - DS exp pak . . . that game is graphically so much more beautiful than the ones before it.

ANYWAY, it's WORTH the FREE 655mb d/l - especially if you are a fan of thief series.
[you got to have Thief 2 installed] ;)

it's pretty "hard" in terms of puzzles and finding out the sequence of 'what to do' . . . . i'll keep you updated if i even finish it.

it's just that you guys are SLOW [really slow] to 'catch on' . . . . :p
[painfully slow] :D

i had to do the same thing with "chronicles of riddick' . . . . check out how many times i had to bump that thread before someone else would even try it

and this one is FREE . . .

ANYway, the POINT is . . . IF you are a Thief fan - and there are many on this forum - this Xpak is a MUST HAVE . . . although it is 'fan based' is it as professional and HiQuality as though it was made by Eidos :Q

[better, actually]

now NO one will try it
[your LOSS]

i'll still update you when i finish it . . . maybe someone else will quit whining 'there's nuthin new to play' and actually d/l this gem of a game ;)

FINALLY!

someone else!!!!

:D

it took me THIRTY hours to d/l - and i tried TEN times . . . finally, i had to JOIN FilePlanet [$6.95] to finally get it since most of the other sites have corrupted files [seems torrent is ok but didn't work for me].

So even though it wasn't free for me it was worth it . . . from the review in part:
One of the best games of 2005 won?t be found in any store, but you can download all 655 megabytes of it for free. If ever there was a reason to get a fast Internet connection, this is it. Five years in the making by a group of gaming enthusiasts and Thief fans from around the globe, Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age is a full-blown expansion to Thief 2. A prequel that bridges the timeline between Thief and Thief 2, T2X tells the story of Zaya, a young Egyptian woman who sails her cargo ship to The City, where her cousin Kedar has opened an import business. Shortly after her arrival, she witnesses Kedar?s brutal attack by smugglers, then flees for her life through the city streets to take refuge in an old condemned mansion. This turn of events leads to her fateful meeting with the mysterious Malak, who sets her on a path of revenge that drives the rest of the story. Who is Malak, and why is he so interested in helping Zaya? That question lies at the heart of T2X, as Zaya travels from The City to the port town of Sunnyport and back again, through museums and mausoleums and smuggler?s caves in her quest to avenge her cousin and get her ship back.

T2X will go down in gaming history, no question. There have been countless fan-made mods and missions for pc games over the years, but T2X is an actual ?game? independently produced by a collaboration of talented individuals to be distributed freely to the public. Had T2X been published by EIDOS and sold in stores, you wouldn?t have thought for a minute that it was fan-made. All of the elements are there: a full 13-mission campaign, an integrated story, professional quality movies, exceptional game art, extensive voice acting, superb production values. Some people have already called T2X the ?real? Thief 3 (in reference to the much-maligned Thief: Deadly Shadows), but that isn?t really fair or accurate. T2X is, as it was intended, a true expansion to Thief 2 as opposed to its successor. Using the same Dark Engine, it improves certain aspects of Thief 2 while adding its own twist to familiar elements. It?s exactly what an expansion should be, and it wasn?t made by some development studio under contract with a big deep pockets publisher, but by a bunch of fans who love Thief. In this era of video games gone Hollywood with big budgets and short development times, targeted at specific demographics to maximize revenue at the expense of unique and original gameplay, T2X proves that great games can be made by and for the rest of us.

Just remember you NEED the original Thief 2 game installed and the Game CDs to play the exp pak.

i 'm only on the Third mission - the City Sleeps and it is as fun and engrossing as the classic game itself.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I finished this a few weeks ago and was really impressed overall. It feels more like T1 than T2 because of all the undead/zombies, but it was really done well despite the fact that I never really liked the undead parts of T1. Game has its challenging moments for sure, I had to look up on the forums for a few objectives, especially in the abandoned hospital. It also got progressively better as you move through. There is a lot less cohesion in the storyline/levels in the beginning, but comes together in a big way in the latter half of the game. Only negative worth mentioning is the voice acting, which varies between great and poor all the way through. If you're enjoying it in the early going, you'll love it by the end.

One thing i have noticed - call it a "weakness" if you are staying true to the 'Thief spirit of sneaking' - is that Zaya is a MUCH better fighter than Garrett. Her short sword can take on the best and baddest of the Hammers, Archers, whatever Single Human opponents. . . . i am much further along in the 4th level [off the train, which was nice, btw] Shadowing and i left a trail of bodies in my wake 'cause i got tired of sneaking.

:D

might be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Weapons are much more powerful and you even get an "EMP" weapon. :Q

Finished it! About 15 hours of gameplay on 'normal' . . . and lotsa secrets i missed [about half]

What a GREAT game!!

It is the EQUAL of ANYTHING Looking Glass [or eidos] ever produced for Thief1/2/3.

Well worth the [free] d/l. ;)

The gameplay/AI/layout is IDENTICAL to thief 1/2 and even the plot intersects - our Heroine actually crosses paths with Garrett [they are in the same building at the same time]. :Q

If you need the 655MB file, i can probably burn it to CD for S+H . . . pm me

What more can i say? i am "blown away" by the crafting of this incredibly professional expansion pak - SO UNlike most 'fan-based' missions. It took 5 years and it is hi-quality.

if you are a fan of "thief" then this expansion is NOT to be missed

apoppin' out

both -
