Well for me it's LTE or nothing. HSPA is sooooooooo slow and might as well be called EDGE. Something about T-Mo's service that blurs the line between LTE and HSPA, though, in certain spots.

I like their policies a lot and its LTE service is really good, but the coverage is not reliable for a day-to-day use. So I use it for my "tablet." (Xperia Z Ultra)

T-mobile's HSPA is 42mbps which combined with their lower subscriber count means you usually get 12mbps or so which is most definitely more than I need. I'm happy with a solid 2mbits and low ping. Web pages are 500KBytes which is loadable in 2 seconds at 2mbits.

Most people fussing for more are actually more interested in the lower latency that comes with LTE having gobs more bandwidth. That lower latency could be had if QoS favored bursty traffic and throttled downloads/heavy streaming-- that's the only thing that kills the network, and is the only thing they really need to worry about metering.

T-mobile's HSPA is 42mbps..

I am still dealing with that HSPA "bug" that limits download speed at ~1.15 Mbps. It has been almost 1.5 years, I think. Thankfully LTE coverage has expanded considerably.

I think it is throttling in action. After the thread I post over a year ago, I tried out one of T-Mo's MVNOs. Interestingly it did not have the same problem despite using borrowed T-Mo's networks. I know some folks told me there was no throttling in T-Mo's $30 plan but it is difficult to imagine what else it could be. But like I said, only on HSPA. LTE works fine.

The same $30 prepaid plan that throttles HSPA to 1.15 Mbps broke my personal speedtest record using LTE today.

I love where this company is going, it's getting better now too as before I had very spotty connection inside my house. How does this work for people with 2gb plans?

My mom has a 5gb plan and I'm thinking of switching her phone to a permanent hotspot at her place, would this overheat the phone having it run 24/7 as a hotspot. She uses only 2gb of data a month.
