You would figure they would ONLY let you access their site, in the hope that you would buy some ringtones or something. Anyway, when you hit the internet button on your phone, its pre-programmed to take you directly to t-zones, which is why you're getting the message telling you to call CS. Instead of hitting the internet button, go into the browser menu, and type in a specific address (I dunno, wap.yahoo.com, anything) that will work.

CS is all confused right now, which is surprising, since t-mobile's CS is usually fairly well informed and helpful.

browser menu? I don't think i have one of those.

Eesh..this really sucks. so much confusion.

Hmm I am a little bit confused. I called the CSR and I asked her what's the difference between old T-Zones and this new Free GPRS stuff and she told me that basically is the same as T-Zone but limited on downloading Ringtones, wallpapers, etcs. She said you cannot access anything else (wap sites, etc). If that's correct I see this as pretty uselesss unless you pay for the extra $ for the data access.

It would seem like T-Mobile is not publicly telling people you can visit other sites beside the T-zones site. They probably think most people either don't know how to do it or won't do it anyway, so they're just telling most people that you can just go to the limited T-zones site and can only get stuff from there (at a price per download.)

In reality, they have not put a limit on what sites you can actually access, so if your phone will allow you to input a url, try something like http://mobile.yahoo.com/home, http://mobile.msn.com/, http://voicestream.moviefone.com just to name a few, and it will work. Whether or not this remains permanent or somewhere along the way they decide to stop this, I don't know.

It works great for me, the only thing I can't do now is send pictures.

Don't think so, but every time I call a rep they act like I'm talking french or something. If you do ask, ask for the free wap service. I call, get mine turned on, hop on the web once, then they shut it back off. T-mobile f!#$^ sucks....

Anybody get your Sony Ericsson T610 phone to work with MSN Mobile Hotmail service? I kept getting a "your client is not allowed to access the requested object" or something after I tried to log in.

On the other hand, it works fine with Yahoo mail...

Passport requires SSL for login, so anything that uses Passport for authentication (like Hotmail) won't work since T-Mobile blocks port 443.

You can run a proxy server somewhere on port 80 and use that to enable access to secure sites and sites that use non-standard ports. You can even do this if you're already running a webserver. I had Apache on port 80 and Squid on port 3128, but by configuring Squid to also serve as an accelerator as well as a proxy, I now have Squid on port 80 and Apache on port 81. My websites load like they always have, but I can access things such as online banking sites through my phone now. (My Palm still won't load secure sites, but I think that's a bug in its browser. Mozilla on my notebook gets through just fine.) Just make sure you put some kind of access control on your proxy...mine asks for a username and password when you first connect to it.

I've also set up an IMAP server and configured my mail server to allow relaying with IMAP-before-SMTP. I can browse websites and send/receive email anywhere my phone gets signal. Life is good.

Using the T610, how do you enter specific sites? I just bought this thing a week ago, and haven't had time to play with it much.

I don't think you should have to even call T-Mobile. They have activated this on everyone's account. Just gotta know how to get to the browser on your phone and enter a URL. My brother has a Samsung S105 from T-Mobile. He never called them, and I had him try some sites, and sure enough, they work.

yea man, i called just to check it out and see what they said...they told me that the only WAP access offered was to their ringtones and games which you have to pay for. this is totally untrue though. i just opened up the browser and typed in wap.yahoo.com and it loaded. then onto mobile.msn.com to checkout a little email...pretty sweet. i have the nokia 3595 so i could tell ya how to do it with that. g'luck man

took me forever to find the stupid browser, it's under funstuff -> tzones -> Wap browser and I just typed stuff in, and it works. Waiting to see how the charge me, but I called and they said surfing with it was free, downloading costs money. Don't know, but I'll see.

Thanks!

I've done a ton of downloading (wallpaper and midi ring tones) since this was first posted. I've received my bill and there are no additional charges.
