system idle process--what the heck is it?

its sucking up 94% of my cpu...never seen that before...any ideas on what this is and why its running if my system isnt idle?

that's what you should be replacing w/ the UD agent, or perhaps SETI@home. Check out the Distributed Computing forum here if you want to know what you could do w/ those cycles.

The system idle process is the process that the OS runs when it has nothing better to do. The system is, in fact, idle when the system idle process is running.

DPC's are run by the system idle process and the OS does other housekeeping tasks to keep itself happy and healthy.

The system idle process is scheduled only when no other threads are in the READY state.

hehehe...it's the percentage of the CPU not being used....hence the term idle
