Awesome post - and just in time, too - I'm building a new gaming PC and this helped me tremendously. I voted for sticky, too, btw.

Kewl :) I put weeks of effort into my guide and my Forum thread didn't get a sticky, but I wish you better luck :) In fact, I think I'll edit my first page to point to this thread instead of AnandTech's guides.

If things didn't change so much, you could just host it. We need to start a site called ATSticky or maybe RogueSticky :)

I have been off the path of upgrading my system every few weeks and was looking for some suggestions, I looked around alot the other day to no avail, thankfully someone bumped this. This was VERY helpful, and i wish a mod would sticky this thing. Otherwise ill just bump it when i check ATOT.

Thanks for the bumpage; I will definitely be revising this thing tonight with prices and components, so give me your suggestions if you have them.

Why dont you just PM a moderator lol... if you do that they get back to you usually within the hour.

Also for this guide why dont you add a bleeding edge system... like a no cost all performance top o the line the shizznit computer.

Updated all three configurations and prices. Added new stuff too.

Give me your suggestions if you have them.

Also, for the most part, Newegg has been increasing their prices. So I included more links to ZipZoomFly, SVC, and BuyExtremeGear (all excellent vendors).

Bleeding edge computers are pointless, no matter what your purpose is. If your purpose is to build a top of the line rig, the difference between a 3800+ and an FX-53 *might* be noticeable in benchmarks but not outside them. If your purpose is to show off to your friends (girls or guys), most could care less about a component tucked inside your case that falls within 5% of the performance of a chip costing hundreds less.

If you want to showboat, just buy a bigger display. Who's gonna get more stares, an FX-53/2GB/X800XTPE with a dual-20" LCDs or a 3500+/1GB/6800GT with a 60" LCD Projection (or Plasma)?

In conclusion, if you want to spend more money than you need to, invest in a bigger display, flashier case, etc.....parts that lose their value and usefulness a lot slower than a CPU or Video Card.
