Sort of. Only to the extent that synthetic has better flow qualities at low temps. Heat is worse on oil because heat causes it to break down, cold doesn't really affect the composition of oil like heat does. That said, synthetic flows better when it's cold, so it allows easier starting in cold climates. The better flow also means that it gets through the lubrication passages more quickly on startup. Still, more benefit is realised in high heat since an engine block heater can take care of almost all of the problems with conventional oil at low temps.Originally posted by: Muadib
