I got an email today from the Swype people saying Swype 3 was in beta and mucho better. So I decided to try it, I downloaded the installer from their site and it's saying version 1.something. Has anyone been able to successfully install the new beta?

And how damn long will Swype be in beta any ways? I remember it being in beta in 09, and it looks like there's no sign of it actually being released anytime soon.

You download the installer then go into the installer and it'll download the keyboard. I like the new Swype, much better than before.

No problems here. Same procedure as all previous betas, uninstall old Swype, uninstall old installer, install new beta, done...

The new swype is amazing. Tapping keyboard FINALLY. I love swyping but there are times I want to tap, and when I want to give my phone to a friend who doesn't swype (darn those idiotic iPhone users who don't know about swype). But seriously, I like bringing tapping in.

My only complaint is that sometimes I want to fix a typo without using swype predictor, but it knows that when you tap a word (even in the middle) it'll put you at the end of the word to use the predictor. I just want to fix 1 letter damnit! But I guess you can't have both.

it doesnt auto punctuate and loses capitalization if you delete your word after a punctuation

but its much, much better than previous builds!

I like it much better but I can't get it to auto-space on my Tbolt. Still working on it though.

edit: Apparently there's no fix for the Thunderbolt with the default SMS app, which is obnoxious. I hate handcent, fuck.

Alright, I'm pissed. I tried handcent again and I still can't stand it. Now the stock app won't even add words to the dictionary (it says it is, but it won't recognize them). lKJlksazdjflakdjfa.

Went back to the version that actually works. Solid waste of an hour.

ok i put on the new swype beta last night...i had to turn off the auto correct by lunch today. i specifically hand typed things in and it still changed my words (so annoying that this is a default); plus i have to restart my custom dictionary (it does NOT come with swear words!)

kinda wish i had just left the old one on there, starting over is a hassle :-/

I saw some instructions on the Swype forums for importing your old word list if you're rooted.

Argh. Last week I installed Cyanogenmod 7 to my OG Droid. Swype wont remain as my default KB. Every time I reboot the phone, I have recheck Swype to include it as a selectable KB.

I reinstalled from the beta. And just installed the Swype 3 beta. Same thing happens. A brief google and forum scan doesn't reveal anyone else having this particular problem. Anyone?

The good: horizontal fill in bar.
The bad: fill in is inaccurate, way toI aggressive, various lock is gone caps ducking not duck fuck caps lock. What was I saying about aggression? If the word doesn't match the fill in, you can't tap it out like the previous beta, it forces a correction.

Verdict still out on Swype 3, I haven't used it enough yet.

i think its ok so far, not an improvement, just different.

i really cant imagine a reason that their installer couldnt do an upgrade to keep the dictionary in place. its 2011, how hard could they have made it on themselves?

often times when I open up my text app, the cursor is present already, and it covers up the "W" key.

That prevents me from typing WHo, Why, Wow, and a lot of other W starts for a sentence.

The 3.25 beta was just released two days ago; this one fixes a very annoying issue where the cursor would automatically move to the end of a word if you tapped anywhere in the word. They put it in as a feature but everyone hated it. It also made browsers with autocomplete features unusable - the moment the autocomplete suggestion was highlighted, Swype moved the cursor to the end of the selection so you couldn't edit it.

New version works correctly now.

Latest beta is very buggy for Thunderbolt users. The text message spacing bug has not been fixed, and it appears that the problem also affects emails now too. The worst part is that Swype seems rather dismissive of the problem, suggesting that people either download other apps for texting or open tickets with the carrier/manufacturer to fix the problem...
