Both the Jewish and Muslim religions consider pigs to be unclean and unholy (cloven feet and what not) which is why neither eat pork. To call it the "Swine Flu" would probably suggest that any Jewish or Muslim individual that happens to contract that strain of the flu came into contact with pigs and thus did something dirty/sinful...

Except no one is saying that. "Swine" just refers to the virus' origin before possibly mutating and jumping to infecting humans. It's not even the same individuals viruses that were in the pigs, just altered copies. Now it's transmitted human to human. The only "fault" that Israeli people getting the virus are guilty of is being in contact with other humans. Not a breech of religious law to be infected by another person.

The name "Swine" flu doesn't imply anything against any religious or national group.

My favorite part of that article is that they're changing the name because "pigs are considered unclean under Jewish dietary laws." I was unaware that influenza was considered clean under Jewish dietary laws. And since flu is never really a clean concept anyway, who gives a fuck if it's called swine flu? You aren't going to go out and eat the virus, are you? This is really, really, really fucking stupid.

When I first heard of the Swine flu plague, I went to the super market and home depot in my bio-hazardous suit to stock up on 5 years of supplies. I'm planning to stay in my grandfather's fallout shelter for the next couple of weeks and see how this plague ends up. I left my job and dropped out of graduate school, fearing that the plague will devour us.

I'm just keeping up on the plague through the internet, radio and have 3 TVs setup for CNN, Fox, and ABC. I hope everyone is doing well out there.
