more like they let their religious zealousness govern their educational assumptions. the smartest man can be made an idiot by allowing his faith/ beliefs define what he may know to be scientifically true.

True dat. I had a Microprocessor Design professor in College who was exceptionally brilliant. I used to take the same class twice (by joining the other session) during the week so that I could grasp everything he said. A year or so later during my senior year, I heard he went cuckoo and became ultra religious out of the blue. He referred to Bill Gates as the devil and said that if you add William Gates III in ascii, it turns out to be 777.

If you catch the swine flu, that means you have come indirectly in contact with swine. Is this what they're mad about?
Except no one is saying that. "Swine" just refers to the virus' origin before possibly mutating and jumping to infecting humans. It's not even the same individuals viruses that were in the pigs, just altered copies. Now it's transmitted human to human. The only "fault" that Israeli people getting the virus are guilty of is being in contact with other humans. Not a breech of religious law to be infected by another person.

The name "Swine" flu doesn't imply anything against any religious or national group.
Posed this question here: link

Can the swine flu virus be passed from a human to a swine (pig)?

Wow, that's all I have to say. I assume a linked article to a FOX page is written by Fox and I was wrong, get over it. :disgust:

You know what happens when you assume? You look like a wise and beautiful woman.

And now you are looking more like the douche by continuing to bring it up.

No, I'm the asshole. Get your shit straight.

Guys, you are missing the point. This is a perfect joke thread opportunity.

Sure, the Jews and the Muslims may be offended by the Swine flu but what about the Mexicans? Won't they be offended by the Mexican Flu? Maybe we should call it the Undocumented Flu!

yuk yuk yuk

i think if you combine the avian flu with the swine flu, you can call it the When Pigs Fly flu

Its disgusting (but not all that surprising) that the Israeli Health Official thinks more of swine than it does of Mexicans.

I read it. I just wanted to add links to further point out how retarded your "Typical Faux News" comment was.

They might as well start a reality show where the winner gets to pick the name.

"Scientists are unsure where the new swine flu virus originally emerged, though it was identifed first in the United States. They say there is nothing about the virus that makes it "Mexican" and worry such a label would be stigmatizing."

Three lines down...

"The current strain of swine flu is thought to have originated in Mexico where more than 100 people have been killed by the disease so far."

...

My favorite part of that article is that they're changing the name because "pigs are considered unclean under Jewish dietary laws." I was unaware that influenza was considered clean under Jewish dietary laws. And since flu is never really a clean concept anyway, who gives a fuck if it's called swine flu? You aren't going to go out and eat the virus, are you? This is really, really, really fucking stupid.

That about sums it up.

3. I don't really understand why Litzman thinks the name "Swine Flu" is insulting. It's insulting pigs? Wouldn't "Mexican Flu" be even more insulting?

Both the Jewish and Muslim religions consider pigs to be unclean and unholy (cloven feet and what not) which is why neither eat pork. To call it the "Swine Flu" would probably suggest that any Jewish or Muslim individual that happens to contract that strain of the flu came into contact with pigs and thus did something dirty/sinful...

Ok, that sort of makes sense, but not really. It's spread from human to human, so is Litzman just stupid or what?

Now I want a BLT for dinner 😛
