arrrgh, first time i've been jacked by an online retailer like this. i checked resllerratings for webuildpcs.com, they had a 4.4 or so at the time i think and i didn't the order right away, so i figured it'd be ok. boy was i wrong.

basic timeline - placed a $300 order Jan 26, the card was charged and was sent a confirmation email. seemed ok. a week later i sent an email after nothing happened, their order tracking page replied Status: Ready to Ship. no reply. submitted another email a week later, no reply. tried calling several times, can only get a busy signal. Feb 7 I sent an email and CC'ed it to every one of their email addresses, perhaps someone would read it, of course, no reply. I'd like to do a little more than a bad resellerratings review, is there anything I can do? what pisses me off is that they put the charge on the card immediately, if that wasn't the case i'd just order from another company and forget the whole thing. it's a check card so i'm assuming Visa's not going to care if i give them a call.

i'd hate to pursue legal action but i'd also hate to just eat $300 for a lesson. the real stinger is i can't get a single reply. :|

You should still try to talk with Visa. The rules with check cards are not the same as with credit cards, however, they do still like happy customers. At least ask them what your options are. . . and then get a real credit card.

WRONG! I have the same protection offered by a Credit Card.

give your bank a call and see what they can do. I bet you can have the charged reversed. I know I have a couple of times for stragne charges.

thanks, i doubt the webmaster will be able to do anything directly, but maybe Eric Hull will be able to get me in contact with those b@stards.

i'll call Visa in the morn and see what they say. i don't often use a check card online but this happened to be one of the cases i did unfortunately enough

edit: it's not just that i want the charge reversed, i want these guys to know they can't f&*k with customers this way

<< WRONG! I have the same protection offered by a Credit Card. >>

Actually, you only have 10 days in which to file an electronic debit dispute in writing with your bank.

Tominator, who issued you your check card?

Hmm....

The Tech FAx number for DNS Registerfree.com looks bogus. The 603 area code is for New Hampshire.

actually I've run into some problems before, it's longer than 10 days for me and it's just a debit card. but it DOES need to be in writing.

The people at my local brance (compass crappy bank) continually tell me they don't think i have much protection with using a check card/visa card, but I am not sure they are right. I must call them one of these days, but other than a couple of online purchases I use a real credit card now with a shopsafe account (unique one-time use number with a pre-set dollar limit).

I've disputed a charge that was well over thirty days old. A phone call and they sent me a forum to fill out. I returned it....got full credit.

I'm 100 miles from the nearest Bank and do all business with them online or phone.

Bank One.

<< they don't think i have much protection >>

That can be true, but Debit Cards are catching up as competition with other banks and forms of payment is fierce.

Hope you got your answer resolve to your liking.

BTW, Sweet, I got screwed, now what . My first impulse is advised you to have a cig. or sleep it off. 😉

Most check cards/debit cards do not offer the same level of protection as a credit card, you should check with your bank to see what protection they offer. That being said, I still would NEVER use a check card for the simple reason that they have access to the funds in your checking account! If you buy a $2000 item and have a problem with the merchant, your checking account is still down $2000 if you are disputing the charge.

At least with a credit card you have more leeway in terms of paying it off and if you notify your CC company in writing, they cant charge you interest on the disputed amount until it is resolved.

I just wanted to let you know that I've ordered from webuildpcs.com two times already... 1 time when they had the ECS and 1.4Ghz T-bird deal and recently about 1 month ago for a new PSU. They shipped everything within 1 week and when I had a question I e-mail eric@webuildpcs.com and got a response about a question within 3 days.... I suggest you could try that to see what's going on. One more note, they didn't put my tracking number on their site till after I had already received my package

I have had charges appear on my CHECK CARD that I know I never made and my bank credits the charge back to me as soon as I tell them about it. I need to fill out a written argument when the bank sends it to me.

Check cards are not protected as much as credit cards are. Credit cards only hold you accountable for $50 per transaction usually, there is no limit for BANK or CHECK CARDS.

I got a credit card that I ONLY use for online transactions, that way I can track it all. You should do the same.

On another note, there is a SOB that has the same name as I do and I have actually had my drivers liscense suspended because of him. The DA's office had to issue me a letter of apologie so I could take it to my employer (paramedic, needs liscense) to clear myself. I still find things on my credit report from this person, ten years later....

The level of protection on a debit card varies from bank to bank. Can be no protection at all - can be all the same protections as a traditional charge card. Mine is protected exactly as a visa card, BUT, it is a business card so it may be different then an individual.

The important thing is to check with your bank. Calling Visa will not get you any answers.

I get people charging My check card all the time for services canceled Etc, i call the bank and they allways take care of it. if you have 2 accounts one for online charges and then your main account that you dont not do online charges with your much better off then using a CC,
