Got it for $180 out the door from the Staples grand opening sale in Chicagoland. Took my Samsung 19" 955DF CRT brickbox down and put it in the basement. Now all I need is more money for another LCD for a dual-monitor setup...:p

IMHO, an LCD is useless if it doesn't support DVI.

<-- hugs his Dell 1504FP connected via DVI.

just as well, I dont think my 8500 has DVI out.

Maybe when I do my next major upgrade I can look into it :thumbsup:

Only if you notice the different. Average Joe could care less if the LCD is hooked up by VGA or DVI as long as it works and looks good.

the fonts were starting to blur on my CRT, not to mention that it throws out so much heat that my room's like a sauna in the summertime. The desktop real estate I gained is also a nice benefit

I bought that monitor for my daughter the christmas before last. I'm pretty sure I paid $300 for it. I remember it being a really good deal bing that I paid almost $300 FOR MY 15" samsung.
Hell, I don't know, maybe I only paid 200 for it.
It has one red pixel right in the middle of the screen. It must have just developed it because I only noticed it a couple days ago.
It's served her well and she loves it.

What's the visual difference between VGA and DVI ? I took advantage of the $400 rebate on the Syntax 27" LCD TV but have it connected via VGA only. The 9800 Pro also does DVI so I can if it's worth it.

I would say it's the difference between an audigy2 soundcard and on board audio. You might not realize what you're missing until you actually get the audigy2 and hear the difference. I have dual monitor set up and theres a big difference between the DVI and VGA, mostly the picture is much clearer and no ghosting effects.

any generic DVI cable off ebay is good enough ? Also I notice my monitor is DVI-I dual link (analog and digital)... would it be ok to use DVI-D (digital) ? The difference is this. Would it technically still work ?

i recently bought 2 sony xbrite 17" lcds. Absolutely amazing. DVI too, except one is connected via analog b/c my 9600xt only has 1 of each.

Anyways, going from 19" CRT -> 17" isn't bad, i'm still running 1280x1024 as before but it's better/sharper than the 19" crt.

You're asking the wrong guy on that kind of stuff. I just use the DVI cable that came with my monitor and a standard VGA cable for my other one.
