Lance Armstrong and the US Postal team baby!!

That is officially excellent. :D

From cyclingnews.com:
New sponsors line up for USPS-Berry Floor
By Tim Maloney, European Editor

Two new sponsors will be featured on the USPS-Berry Floor jersey for 2004. The Silicon Valley microprocessor giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) logo will be prominently displayed, likely as a way to promote the perennial second place chip maker (to Intel) new AMD Athlon 64 bit microprocessor. Industry insiders tell Cyclingnews that AMD is perhaps a year ahead of chip giant Intel in the vital new 64 bit processor market and so what better way to get noticed on a global scale but to put its logo on Lance Armstrong's shoulders and posterior.

EDIT- Short clip of Lance talking about the new sponsorship.

Only a year? Intel has to give Prescott SOME time to flop. I give it 2 years before Intel even STARTS work on an AMD64 solution. 5 years if they get REALLY stupid and try an IA64 consumer chip.

nah..I just thought you guys would get a kick out of it. You've probably never even heard of my favorite cyclists. Not that Lance isn't a badass, mind you.

"Lance Armstrong was stripped of his record sixth Tour de France victory today after officials discovered that the AMD logo on his buttocks had been "overclocked"; tech slang for running a processor at speeds beyond its official rating. "I though I smelled burning silicon when he dropped me on L'Alpe d'Huez." commented eventual second-place finisher Jan Ullrich."

"Official AMD spokeperson Yung Long Wang responded to these allegations with the following remark:
"The alleged overclocking of Mr. Armstrong's buttocks is sheer lunacy. The processor was designed with very specific thermal guidelines. Violation of these would result in severe second-degree burns to Mr. Armstrong's buttocks."
At this point, Lance lowered his pants to display "Exhibits A and B" to the crowd. While a firm impression of the seat could be made out, no evidence of burns was present."

I thought Tejas (the successor to Prescott, which isn't going to be mainstream for a very long time) would have 64-bit code?

It MIGHT, but Intel pushed it back at LEAST a year, maybe 18months. And 1 year in CPU wars is FOREVER!!! I don't think intel can keep Microsoft from coming out with its 64bit Desktop OS that long.

"In a related story, INTEL lead developer Luv Yung Tang decried the allegations of AMD's claimed processor supremacy as "loincloth-clad chest pounding and phallus-waving". "Not only are AMD's claims completely without merit, I feel compelled to point out that they have yet to so much as set foot in the realm of our superior "Buttock Hyper-Threading Technology". Not only would an INTEL-equipped competitor not even need to resort to such drastic and immoral measures as overclocking to acheive high levels of performance, but they could do so wirelessly from even the highest alpine pass via our new "AssTrino" mobile processor technology."

Fausto, In the listing of sponsors AMD is #3 that means it will be prominently displayed.
Way to go Lance & AMD. Remember in It's Not About The Bike, the line..
"How do you like them apples". I hope he is able to say it again.

Note: It was not a reference to Apple computers.;)

Yep. Sponsors are generally listed in order of cash laid out and size of logo. USPS and Berry Floor are the title sponsors, so AMD must have floated them some large bling to be listed ahead of Trek (not a small company).

Edit- as noted in the first post, the logo will be on shoulders and booty. Since many cycling photos are taken head-on or rear-on, AMD will get a lot of ink from their investment.

Most were track people anyway... Some of the famous roadies were Bernard Hinualt, Eddy Merckx, Greg Lemond, Viatcheslav Ekimov (got a jersey from him), Alexi Grewal, Dean Woods... Oh, and Lance... :D

The fact that he rides a trek bike (he still does doesn't he?) should more worth more in advertising than AMD could buy.

I'm a trackie, and I have proof dammit!:D

Eddy is the man. Period. There is none higher.

Otherwise, I was a big fan of Jose' Maria Jimenez (RIP :( ), and am a big fan of Museeuw, Bartoli, DeVlaminck, Vandenbroucke (when he's not bogged down being a headcase), and Zabel.
