SVC GC68 And Panaflo L1A Enough For A XP 1700+?

Will this be enough to cool my non-oc'ed XP1700+? I asked about the L1A and SK6 earlier but read about how great this cooler. Since it's 10 bucks cheaper, I feel compelled to give this one a chance. Any opinions? If anyone has the same setup could you please provide some temps? Thanks.

You would do better with a Alpha PAL8045 + Panaflo L1A. The Alpha costs about $29 online. The SVC may be sufficient, but the PAL8045 surely will. Why take chances?

Uhm, I think he cares about how much he spends. I realize that Alpha is a good heatsink but not everybody wants to dish out 40 bux for a heatsink.

For the price of 1 Alpha, you can get 2 GC68 and a stick of gum. Same reason why EPOX is so popular. You can get 2 Epox boards for a the price of 1 ABIT or ASUS boards.

Yes, I'm sure GC 68 will be sufficient. I've overcloked my XP1700 w/ GC68 to 142 Mhz and it's rock solid. The temp went up only 2C. Dont expect any big overclocking room though. It's a budget cooler and a good one at that.

I wouldnt put a panaflo on it just because there's no reason to. I switched to a panaflo and switched back after realizing the noise difference is unnoticeable.

Could you tell me the temps you were getting with the panaflo and the fan that came with the heatsink? Thanks.

I would use the stock 30cfm fan it comes with. I still have 3 or 4 L1A's sitting in a box and have felt no reason to switch it for the 1 on my GC68. I had an L1A on my heavily Oc'd 8045 and replaced it with a higher output Sunon becasue my temps were higher then I liked. TRUST me, you will be fine with the GC68 and the stock 30cfm fan. It is very quiet. My temp is 42c on a slightly Oc'd XP1700, k7s5a. Thats under FULL load!

Thanks for all the input. I was under the impression that 28dBa would be about twice the noise of the 21dBa L1A fan since the scale is logarithmic. I guess 2x the sound of a L1A is still pretty damn quiet. Off to case-mod.com to get my GC68.

Yes it's twice as loud but there are other things in the computer that drowns out the noise, such as hard drives. Currently my Maxtor 7200 rpm is the loudest component in my system.

With the panaflo, my system temp was 33C, cpu temp 47C
with the original, my system temp was 33C, cpu temp 45.5C

Again, It's not the best temp you can get in the world, but it's more than adaqueate and gives you enough room for modest overclocking.

12C difference between the board temp and the CPU is pretty darn good for a $13 heatsink.

BTW, It' just became lot colder in S-Kali so my System temp and cpu temp dropped by a couple.

The thing is I just bought a new Seagate Barracuda IV hard drive and the damn thing is completely silent. That's why I want to put a L1A on the chip so badly. I'll take quiet over slightly high temp anyday. Thanks for all the help.
