Sushi and Sake

Last night I went to a sushi place. I'd only tried sushi one other time and didn't really like it. Most of my immediate family aren't seafood lovers, so I wasn't raised around seafood. I am, however, open to trying things. The sushi that I'd tried previously tasted too "fishy" to me. When I ordered last night, I got the vegetable stuff. Wow. Good stuff, man! A little sushi and some soy sauce is a great thing. :thumbsup:

Towards the end of our meal I had my first sake bomb. I knew that some how the sake ended up in the beer, but I didn't know how. Haha The waitress explained it to me (the cook wanted to have it with me) and then he and I did the sake bomb. What's funny is that I generally dislike beer, but I liked it last night (I think it was Sapporo--is that right??--at the restaurant and then a Miller Light at his [my date's] place). Almost at the very end of our meal, my date had a sake bomb with the cook too. It was pretty cool. Small place that is new to town with great food and a cool atmosphere.

I've had sake both cold and hot and don't like it either way. Sushi on the other hand, I eat at least once a week.

Now I have to get sushi tonight, thanks alot. I love sushi, I'm a real big fan of sashimi. You really can go wrong with anything tempura (fried), it adds a nice crunch to the roll. My favorite roll is the dragon roll from my local sushi place (Dragon rolls are different at every place). It's a squid stuffed with eel and sushi rice, fried and has seaweed salad on top. SOOO GOOD.

I love sushi. I eat it at least once a week...Mmm, sooo good...:thumbsup:

I like the rainbow roll, some of the house specialty rolls, spicy yellowtail and tuna rolls, anything with salmon smoked or otherwise, I like eel and I also like uni (actually, I really :heart: uni).

Asahi goes down smoother and has a richer flavor on my tongue vs Miller. Miller goes down just as smooth but the after taste is like that of a Heini for me.

Love the sushi (unagi, mmmmm) not a big fan of the saki. Never tried it cold though, only warm. Alcohol simply should not be served warm.

My wife and I love sushi, going out for sushi was our 1st real date..... We live on the east coast so the sushi is decent but we just got back from Seattle and went to 2 sushi places out there, probably the best ever. You should definitely have Miso Soup it is part of the experience and the avacado & spinach salad is good too. House rolls are really good most times and then the spider roll is always awesome.

Fixed the whole date/cook misunderstanding, folks.

Any other recommendations for the least "fishy" tasting sushi? Oh, and I can't eat anything spicy. It hurts my stomach like hell AND I'm a complete wimp. Can't do most salsa, any jalepenos, or ANYTHING hot. lol

I fixed sushi at home for the first time the other night. Lots of fun after frequenting sushi bars. I used real snow crab legs for the california roll, and the philly roll. I had some Nigiri with yellowfin and some snapper.

I found that my local Kroger had a little suishi express that sold some good quality items. For instance they had REAL wasabi that was prepped in a small tube and real pickled ginger. No additives or food coloring. Its defiantly an acquired skill.

Don't sweat it. Most people in Japan eat sushi with their hands. I usually do the same. The proper way to use the soy sauce is to dip only the fish. Its easier to do this with fingers

Yay me! I'll have to go more and practice. My date from the other night just called me so maybe I'll have him take me there again some time.
