I went to Europe for over a month and thus I have Mad Cow. So I guess im not eligable. I used to donate everytime they called me. Like every 6 weeks or something.

I thought the Europe thing was for a longer span... 6 months total or something like that...
For those of you who don't donate, but are eligible, (well, if you haven't something nice to say, don't say anything.) So... :disgust: :disgust: :disgust: :disgust: :disgust: :disgust:

The Red Cross keeps good track of who has donated blood... if you ever need a transfusion, the blood is free if you were a donor. Otherwise, it's pretty expensive.

I would pass out for sure.

I'm a 5'9 125lb 17 year old guy.... one pint of my blood gone and I wouldn't be able to walk.

it DOES NOT HURT. if you are not prepared you obviously won't have an easier time. the best trick is to drink a TON of water the day you are going to go. it opens up your veins to some affect and also makes your blood flow faster. you must also eat that day. giving blood on an empty stomach is a terrible idea. if the needle is hurting you, tell the person who put it in and have them adjust it.

the only advice i ever give people is to drink water, and not to look when they prick you. look away! distract yourself somehow. do a slight countdown in your head.

and when its done, raid the cookies!

I donate with empty stomach. it doesn't hurt. it is just some pussies on the board saying it hurts. just be A MAN!

I have a genetic adaptation that causes me to be borderline anemic. It is a trait found along the Mediterranean area. They have turned me down three of the four times I have tried to donate blood. So I have given up trying.

I donate every chance I can get. I love it! This is going to sound very selfish, but after donating a pint I can get drunk off of 3 beers :D Saves me at least $20 for the night at the bar, as I can milk those 3 beers just as long as I can my normal ammount of beers.

Bonus: I help someone

Bonus 2: Free soda and cookies :)

EDIT: I'm serious. Also please note that I'm close to getting my "gallon donator" sticker
One bad thing though, I got a tattoo a few months ago, so I won't be donating for another few months :(

i get sick after blood been taken. For some reason i allmost pass out after blood is taken from me so i basically avoid giving blood for this reason. If at some points this will no longer be case and i am still eligible to do it i may give blood, time will tell.

we have regular donation opportunities at work, but
the people who've donated come back complaining about the
incompetent phlebotomists, & then complain about their arm
hurting for days.

Even two vials of blood being drawn made me pass out. Also, maybe catching something I guess but I'm sure that's not very common if possible.

Why do people have to DONATE when the hospital charges an arm and a leg to give blood.

I did.... and I fainted afterwards since my blood pressure dropped too much. It was pretty bad since when I fainted, they had someone help me to the 'snack table' and I fell on top of her.

Puss. When I was donating at seventeen I was 5'7 109lbs. I had to put rocks or some other junk in my pockets to pass the weight test they gave me everytime. I never passed out. I gave, got my cookie, and left in a span of 10 minutes. That's a puss excuse you have.

I am pushing the four gallon mark now, however they prefer my platelets and I no longer do whole blood so it takes me longer to get volume.

Platelet donation is quite another experience, for me it takes about an hour and half.

I used to, but after about the 3rd time in a row of some incompetent @sshat poking around in my arm. By that I mean none of them got it right until at least the 3rd try... and I have been told before on other occassions that I have nice, big veins (twice, actually, by nurses right before drawing blood). So, I've donated maybe 6-7 times, figure thats enough to cover my own social obligation. If the Red Cross wants to turn a simple needle insertion into a 15 minute operation, well, screw them.
