Surround Sound speaker

Basically, I am looking into surround sound speakers. My motherboard is the K8n neo platinum from MSI, and it supports 7.1 dolby surround, so my options are open. The two systems I have been looking at are:
Logitech 5.1 z-5300e
Or the:
Creative inspire t7800 8 piece

What I am hoping for from my surround sound system is a really good surround system, so that when someone in Half-Life 2, for instance, makes a noise behind me, it really sounds like they are behind me, so that I turn around in my chair wondering whos there tounge2.gif . But I also want good quality sound so that when a helicopter is flying over me in GTA:vc, it really sounds like there is a helicopter flying around outside the house.
Which of these systems would best deliver, or is there another system that would do just as well, or even better for a similar price?

1 gig of ram

well, for the amazon prices, they are 80 and 120 or so... I guess I wouldnt like to pay more than 150... unless that only gets me a crappy system of course.
 
thanks for replying. I have to be honest, I had jsut bought this today :This here, and obviously, I am dissapointed in its performance. Sure it may be 5.1, but I dont really notice any surround sound thats really impressive. It doesnt sound like there a real gun going of behind me when playing counter-strike, and thats what I want. I can see the wattage on the sattelites is alot lower on my current system, than on the other 5.1 I have posted. Will this wattage on the one you suggested give me that?
 
Its not the speakers that will give you surround sound (unless it has an outboard DSP which your speakers doesn't have), its the sound card. Check your sound card settings.
 
If you eventualy want to do HTPC or evern consider it, I'd reccoment no less of a reciever than a Denon 3800 series. You can get 3803's at decent prices on ebay. or get one here

Then buy pairs of partsexpress BR-1 mini monitors (shielded version if you want so they can go right next to your CRT/TV/puter/magnet sensitve whatever) as you can afford them.

Once your done they can be your computer speakers/HT setup for the rest of your life.
 
I already changed my sound card settings to 5.1 surround, I just think that the speakers do have enough power to really give them clear and crisp audio
 
You're likely overlooking something. I have the same speakers (x-530's), and I've been quite impressed with them, especially with DVD's. I'm using an Audigy 2zs to push them.
 
i have to agree with the replys on the x-530's. They are nice and no distortion. But doesnt go loud enough or hit hard enough for me. And it seems primal feels the same way. The z-5300's are perty nice and hit decently enough to please most anyone. Of course this is when i turned on the klipsch 5.1's and became disgusted with everytihng else 🙂
 
If it's made out of plastic, it doesn't deserve to be called a speaker. 😛

The only exception are JBL Eons, but there high denisty plastic thats 1" think, and technically not speakers, but stage monitors.

I like to build speakers. I built my pc, amplifier (from scratch), and speakers (from scratch).
 
Well, your stereo Robbon is a little too expensive for me, so I went and bought the z-5300e, and listened to Matallica's "No Leaf Clover" and nearly shat myself. thanks for your input guys.

I agree, I dont bother with "PC speakers", I have a full 7.1 stereo system. Denon AVR-2805, JBL 4802 monitor speakers for the fronts, 4 Infinity Reference 2001.3 for the 2 rears and an Infinity Entra II for the center. Games sound freaking awesome and music, well, lets just say my neighbors hate me. I even have my Denon classic 45F turntable hooked up to my PC. I say if you're gonna go 7.1 do it right. PC speakers? BAH! 🙂
 
Unless I'm mistaken, those cost more than 500 dollars right? Thats a little more than I would like to spend right now. But maybe in the future, I basically cant upgrade anything else on my computer right now, but hardware changes so fast...
 
Well, now I got a sound card question. Since my graphics and poot speed are all good, might as well upgrade the sound. I have heard good things about the sound blaster audigy 2 platinum ZS. First, I feel I get pretty good quality with my integrated sound card, but everyone tells me that integ sound sucks, and I even read that some people are dissapointed with the clarity with my mobos sound card, so what difference will I notice? Is it even worth it? and is this audigy a good bang for my buck?

The sound quality is much better then onboard audio. You don't need a ZS platinum. That's just a ZS with a 5.25" front audio bay.

Anyway, BB had that card on sale for $60 a month ago. That's the lowest price I've seen the retail package.
 
Well, I dont know why I would need a front hub for the audigy, so you saved me $80. Thanks. I have never had a seperate sound card, which is why I dont know how much clearer my sound quality could get, but I guess I'll give it a shot, my paycheck was quite satisfying this month.
 
Damnit, why cant there be one good card, and one bad card. so many choices. so little money 🙁
Is the audigy 2 zs an old cound card? Best Buy no longer carries it around me.
