Surprised how ridiculously expensive the Cadillac CTS is.

pardon me, i seem to have stepped on GM's nuts. i'll back away so you can pick them up with your mouth.

jesus christ you people are absurd with your GM love.

Just like people are absurd with their Toyota love or hatred for anything domestic.

Uhhh...seriously? We know you dislike domestics, but the CTS is basically the cheapest car in its class. You're going to need to find some other criteria to rag on, because you can't do it with price.

Audi A4 starts at $31,450. Maxed out at $52,305 with their configurator.
BMW 3 series sedan starts at $32,850. Maxed to $59,650 (gas, didn't check the diesel).

Ridiculous! Absurd! And those two aren't even in the same size class.

Start pricing the A6 or 5 series and it's even 'worse'.

Also, good for you for being OK with paying MSRP! Somebody has to keep these dealers in business!

Who the hell said I was okay with paying MSRP? I'm not car shopping so why would I even bother doing any research further than looking at the window sticker? I simply said that I was driving by the dealer so I pulled over and looked at it.

I'm sure you could get them cheaper...how much cheaper? I don't know and I don't care quite frankly.

I know for a fact I could get a nicely equipped G37 sedan for $10k less than that.

I'm just busting your chops. You only posted the MSRP as if that's what you would have to pay to buy it.

Heh yeah. I think everyone is ready to deal right now, at least the dealers who want to move inventory. The only exception to this is BMW dealers. I love BMW's, but it seems like most of their dealers are very very tightfisted on the price, particularly with the $$$ options.

Go to the BMW website, I just configured a $73k 230HP 528i.

My best friend bought a 2009 BMW 650i a few weeks ago. He got $10k off and 0.9% financing for 5 years, ended up costing him around $73k actually...depends on the car I guess.

I'd sure as hell rather be driving around in a 650i than a 528i.

That makes two of us :) I think it depends on the dealers in question. The economy here in North Texas is still quite strong, and the BMW sales force doesn't seem very motivated to make deals. If I were seriously in the market for a BMW, I'd probably try to haggle with a Detriot-area BMW dealer and drive it back myself ;)

edit: carsdirect is blowing out G35s, holy hell they're cheap. $35K for the sport w/ premium pack and 0% on top of that?

a few grand off MSRP and you may have factory or dealer incentives on top of that.

You are definately just looing at sticker price. We bought our Cadillac CTS in January, the sticker price was around $45K, I negotiated and got it for around $33K. It has everything except the navigation system (didn't want because you really can't upgrade something that is built into the dash), the parking sensors in the rear bumper, and the keyless ignition. It did come with the same sport suspension as the CTS-V. Man I love to drive this car. Like I said, we've had it since January and we now have a wopping 6,200 miles on it.

yuck, automatic.

I'm just all around digsusted at how expensive cars have gotten. A saw a "normal" Mazda3 (non speed) for almost $28,000 when I was getting some service done on my car. WTF man? That's a basic economy car in entry level luxury territory. Who would ever spend that much on one?

The sticker price for a full size 4x4 extended cab truck is around $35,000 before any major rebates. That's just redonkulous.

Car prices have just gotten retarded.

Hah, I felt precisely the same way recently, saw a brand-new '09 Altima 2.5S Coupe sitting on the lot for around $29k. It didn't have leather or NAV, it was just a 4-banger FF slushbox. I would totally feel ashamed for anyone who would actually pay that for that car, when closeout or used 350Z's (with less than 10k miles) can be had for that price.

I test drove a 2008 Nissan 350Z with less than 30 miles on it a couple months ago...they were asking $26k for it. :D

...we couldn't figure it out.

And there ya go ;) Those Altima coupes would be a good value imho if they were $18k or so, not $29k!! Jeeez. It wasn't even the 3.5L version.

have any of you nuthuggers actually been in a 'premium' CTS? how about a comparable german sedan?

as i've said in other threads with much longer replies, if you can't immediately tell the difference, you're completely retarded. you probably also own a vizio TV and a bose surround system.

don't like that i'm not writing a term paper on why the CTS is not worth 50 grand? tough shit, i've learned not to waste my time on idiots. where are your arguments for why it's so great? besides 'it starts at 37k.' whoopedy fuck.

and again, the tired-ass 'GM hater toyota fanboy' cliche just makes you look even stupider. i don't give a fuck what badge is on it, a good car is a good car. and the CTS isn't bad car- but audi, bmw, merc, infiniti, and whoever else aren't exactly quaking in their boots over the competition.

Brblx, are you seriously trying to fight Louisssss for the position of 'chief troll'?

I've ridden in a few CTS's, both the older gen and the current one, sadly no CTS-V's though. And of course I've owned a couple of BMW's and ridden in a huge variety of Mercs, BMW's, and Audis.

The new CTS is definitely world-class, even if the styling is subjectively not my type. The old one was good, but had enough flaws (middling interior, some reliability issues) to keep it from being 'great'. The new one though, I would have to seriously consider it if I was interested in a car of the type. The interior is vastly improved, they've dropped the problem areas with certain drivetrains that were iffy on the 1st gen, and the styling is more complete.

You're the one polluting the thread here :

1st post : Responding rudely to a post with no real detail.
2nd post : Broad insult while still offering no real input into the discussion.
3rd post, the one I'm replying to : More broad insults, no details.

JM was pretty fair with the OP, but there's no reason to go bananas in the thread.

my first post was pointing out a huge incongruency with this forum as opposed every person i've ever met. i don't see how that's trolling. i think saying 'gtfo toyota fanboy' just because someone doesn't agree with you is a lot closer to it, in fact.

i look at GM window stickers every day, and every other person who sees them asks what the hell they were smoking when they priced the car. i do not have any personal friends or acquaintances that are shopping for GM's in the current market, other than used trucks. i simply find it amusing how there is a large segment of this forum that trips all over themselves to fawn at new GM cars that are just not appealing at sticker price. and saying 'well i got mine cheaper' is just backing that up. no one's looking at these cars until they don't sell and end up going at hugely reduced prices.

seems like the japs are making a lot more money by simply selling cars near competing MSRP's instead of 10k more.

lol @ Audi

Everyone knows they are the most unreliable POS's in the luxury world. But they sure are beautiful.

The more I look at this car, the more dated it looks, already.....

The sharp lines and old man rear end lights/styling will look ancient in another year or two.

I drove one that had little to no options and wasn't impressed by anything.

I haven't driven the CTS but the interior was definitely on par with zee Germans. When it first came out I hated the exterior styling but it has kind of grown on me. Far be it for me to heap praise on an American car but I haven't heard anything bad about the driving or handling...seems to me that you are wrong.

I would totally rock a CTS-V personally.

I just think that $52k for a V6 luxury sedan is way too much coin.

Besides the stupid anolgies there, you really don't back up anything you say. OK, what's the major difference between the premium CTS and comparable BMW in your opinion??

While I don't mind criticism, I like it a lot less when it's just a blanket "It's just shit!" kind of answer. Back it up with your comparisons. Don't make assumptions about how someones taste in cars is comparable to their entertainment setup. Like I said, it's a retarded analogy.

The CTS premium is quite comfortable as is the BMW according to my butt. Yours may feel differently. Both have nice ineriors. I wish the glossy center console was a little less glossy on the Caddy. It kind of gives it that "plastic" feel to me.
The seats are nicely bolstered on both. I really dig the BMW seats with the hamstring cushion adjustment. That makes a HUGE difference if you're on the road for hours. Sometimes a lot of car seats don't seem to be long enough for the legs. I have long legs, so I would LOVE to have that adjustment available.
I'm not a huge fan of the self hiding navi screen, but that's just my personal preference. Not a fan of the of the BMW's either. I like the way our TL's is. Touch screen and easy to get to.

The driving position of the BMW gets an edge here. It feels a bit more natural (?). Don't know how to really describe it.

I don't think the price point of the CTS is really far out there at all. It's pretty much in line with the cars it's supposed to be running against. BUT, that doesn't mean you have to pay that much either. That's what haggling is for.
Take any of the competition and apply the "premium setup" and look at the prices.
