Surprised how ridiculously expensive the Cadillac CTS is.

I was out with the wife a couple weekends ago and I spotted a nice looking Cadillac CTS at the local Caddy dealer so I pulled up at the curb and gave it a quick look. The door was open so I hopped in and was impressed with the interior, it was comfortable and handsome. Then I looked at the window sticker on the rear door...$52,000 for a big 4 door sedan with a V6 engine? I don't get it...
 
Also, an Audi A6 3.2 starts at $45k. An Acura RL starts at $46k, a BMW 528i starts at $46k, and a Lexus GS350 starts at $45k. These are all with base options which I'm sure the Caddy didn't have. And all V6 2WD sedans.

For a well optioned CTS, I'd say it was probably right around the ball park with it's competition.
 
A BMW 335 or Audi S4 can both swing into those price ranges and beyond with options. I'm sure you would get a lot better deal on that CTS as well...not to mention that the CTS is a larger car. I have to say, when car shopping recently I was really surprised how pricy cars were in general (at least the MSRP). I saw a Ford Edge going for 43K and a Ford Mustang pushing 40K. Not that they aren't nice cars...but that's a lot of cheddar for a Ford Mustang (albeit range topping).
 
at 52k CTS was probable the AWD 3.6L Direct Injection model.

As Demon-X pointed out the MSRP for the standard 3.0L CTS is less then $37k.
 
$20,000 worth of options will do that.

edit: you can option an IS350 out to $62,000. now that's ridiculous.

The 2010 CTS Premium AWD starts at $51,820.00 according to Edmunds; the base model starts at $36,730.00
 
i don't know anyone other than the people on this forum who doesn't think nearly every GM offering is overpriced. and that includes GM fans...

edit: subject verb agreement and whatnot.

Yea less then 37k for a car that does better then cars that cost 50k. yep damm over priced GM cars.

Audi A4 starts at $31,450. Maxed out at $52,305 with their configurator.
BMW 3 series sedan starts at $32,850. Maxed to $59,650 (gas, didn't check the diesel).

Ridiculous! Absurd! And those two aren't even in the same size class.

Start pricing the A6 or 5 series and it's even 'worse'.

Also, good for you for being OK with paying MSRP! Somebody has to keep these dealers in business!

Cross shop the competition. They are ALL expensive. The RL can get up to $58k, the other cars I listed can go much higher.

All I'm saying is that the price is on par, brought up it's four nearest competitors, and shown that it isn't bad. You're the one saying it's overpriced while providing zero reason for it being overpriced other than "It's a domestic!".

Personally, I think the whole class of cars is overpriced. But that's why I'm not in their demographic. 🙂
 
You are definately just looing at sticker price. We bought our Cadillac CTS in January, the sticker price was around $45K, I negotiated and got it for around $33K. It has everything except the navigation system (didn't want because you really can't upgrade something that is built into the dash), the parking sensors in the rear bumper, and the keyless ignition. It did come with the same sport suspension as the CTS-V. Man I love to drive this car. Like I said, we've had it since January and we now have a wopping 6,200 miles on it.
