Not good enough for liberals, but apparently the best on the planet..the U.S. economy.

You know our Euroweenie friends the French and Germans have much higher unemployment, the Euro is very strong (making their exports very costly which reduced domestic productive), and their GDP growth rates are crappy, inspite of violating E.U. law/guidelines about deficit spending (rules for everyone else in the E.U. but themselves).

The European Predicament

The opening paragraph:

Let's be clear. If Europe's economy was healthy, it would grow about 4 percent annually for a few years and then settle down to a respectable 2.5 percent or 3 percent. The initial burst would absorb surplus unemployment (the jobless rate is near 9 percent). Once that happened, Europe would ride the gains of new technologies. Nothing like this is occurring. Since 2000, the economy of the "euro zone" (the 12 nations using the euro) has averaged growth of about 1 percent a year. That's bad for Europe -- and everyone else.

As history witnessed in the former Soviet Union, the liberal/socialist vision of equality is merely equal misery. Um, no thanks.

i heard it with my own ears less than a hour ago!!

the commentatory then went on to say that he "would prefer to see the unemployment rate go UP"....

I like the red faced ranters. That's one of the better ones. Of course some of the best sport flag avatars. Often seen swearing at other members, particularly the liberal ones. Bush is of course a disaster, but then water is wet, and the sky is often blue. The fact that he is the most disreputable president since Nixon is just something the flag faced facists have to deal with. Life is hard. Too bad. Deal.

One day you might be able to post something without going off on a tangent, and perhaps then it could be discussed between both sides of the aisle, but that day has not arrived with this thread. Yes the economy is improving. It was bound to. It will then get worse, then better, then worse, then better. It has always been that way.

I know this is sport for you, and that is fine, however try to recall that the European situation is somewhat different than ours, especially with Germany. Germany is still suffering the effects of reunification.

I believe you will find that communist China has a faster growing economy than the US. Who cares? If people can find good paying jobs this is good news. Yes, it makes Bush more likely to get reelected, and I do consider that unfortunate, however people need work. That is more important than liberal vs. conservative.

Bottom line is that you still have a 500 billion deficit and no easy way out of that. The tax cuts need to end and then this budget needs to be balanced, and GWB does not have that ability if he blows fscking billions of dollars on more anti-drug and pro-marriage advertising.

We need a fiscal conservative, and GWB is not the one.

so how will the economy get better if money is taken out of the pockets of the people? you do realize the economy is people spending money, right??? also you do realize that businesses do not really pay taxes, the consumer does through the bottom line.

i am trying to make the point that EVEN the hard core liberal media (and please don't tell me NPR is "middle of the road") is now agreeing that the economy is getting better, and that thsi is not a "jobless" recovery.

i suspect that this won't be sufficient news to change them inds of many who post here, who will be convinced the economy under Bush is terrible, even when the DOW breaks 11,500, when unemployment falls below 4%, inflation stays low, interest rates remain low, home ownership increases....

you can already see it, obfuscation about what unemployment rates mean ("they're dropping because people are giving up on looking for work!" followed by, "I will be happier when unemployment rates go up, because it means more people are looking for work"...just hogwash)...the diehards that just hate Bush, will paint the economy as rotten no matter what...

i encourage you to look at the chart of the DOW and judge what the economy is doing based on the most UNBIASED measure there is, the DOW. For those of you that will claim this doesn't mean anything....my response is do you really believe we would be better off if the DOW where lower?

I suppose what I want is completely unreasonable. I would like both (notice both) sides to once post a thread about economic policies and have a reasonable debate for and against them. This would mean no Bush bashing (although economic policies would be fair game as long as the messenger himself didnt get shot) and France and Germany and Commie Liberals didn't get drug in either.

I do not expect this to happen.

Tangent refers to France and Germany in this case. The US economy is tied to some degree to the fortunes of others, however the recovery and unemployment rates are independent of that for our purposes, at least in this context. It was a chance for you to get "even". I can understand some of this from both sides. I guess it is just getting wearying.

Still, this isn't serious policy. This is entertainment to a large degree since no one in DC be they liberal or conservative really gives a flying donkeys butt what we think, and are hardly aware of us.

OK i'll agree with that..the reference was intended to highlight the fact that these countries have poorly managed domestic economies. Liberals seem to covet the stamp of approval from these countries with regards our international affairs, and simultaeously belittle our President's efforts both domestically, and internationally..given the misearble condition of these countries economies, why do the liberals feel their judgements are superior to Bush's? But, yes, that IS quite tangential.

That's never going to happen, because this forum really isn't about serious dicussions about anything..most people who post here have very limited backgrounds in history, economics, politics, or much of anything for that matter.I believe the average age of the poster on AT is 20 years old....

I try to include lots of links in my posts...hopefully people will reda some of them, and in the process learn something new, not from me, but from the link. if i upset a liberal, and they search the internet for something else to read to refute my statements...that's good too.

what i hope is that liberals will go and read ann coulter, rush limbaugh, the wall street journal, watch FOX news....check out all the newsources they don't trust, because i spend a lot of time reading very left wing stuff (even the the North Korean News) to try and hear all sides of the story....because then your more informed.

i sound strident at times in my posts because liberal voices far outnumber conservative voices in these forums (please don't telll me your all moderates and i'm a right winger)

a civilized debate about facts, the economy, and politics....not in the U.S Senate, not in the House, not in Washington D.C., not in AT P&N..
