it's not the diffculty. it's just when your isp has a 3-day retention it is impossible to find what you want when you want it. while on some BT sites, a torrent can be alive for months.

paying for a better server kind of defeats the purpose

it is the difficulty. can't you see how difficult it is to learn how to use BT than newsgroups? the retention is another difficulty that discourage people from using it.

you said "most people won't make the effort to learn how to use newsgroup."

the difficulty with the retention isn't one you can solved by just learning some things. you need to actually pay money for a good server. that puts it on a different level.
In most cases that's right. Some ISPs have pretty good NG servers. Mine has one with good retention and completion, but limits speeds to about 30k/sec. Anybody serious about it does need to pay, and that definitely puts it out of the realm of the interest of most people.

the funny thing is that, cd's cost about $15 and when i go into a music store i probably spend about $30 on cd's. i mean that?s a lot of money. but if cd's cost 9 or ten dollars, i would probably spend about $60 at the music store at one time....

i don?t know about the RIAA or anything like that. i hate paying the big cost, but music is something that should not be handed around like its nothing.........

suprnova was going to change, the mpaa probably just sped it up.

check out the following slashdot link: http://slashdot.org/article.pl.../02/2016244&tid=95
for those that don't want to click....

"Exeem is a new file-sharing application being developed by the folks at SuprNova.org. Exeem is a decentralized BitTorrent network that basically makes everyone a Tracker. Individuals will share Torrents, and seed shared files to the network. At this time, details and the full potential of this project are being kept very quiet. However it appears this P2P application will completely replace SuprNova.org; no more web mirrors, no more bottle necks and no more slow downs. Exeem will marry the best features of a decentralized network, the easy searchability of an indexing server and the swarming powers of the BitTorrent network into one program. Currently, the network is in beta testing and already has 5,000 users (the beta testing is closed.) Once this program goes public, its potential is enormous. " -dated december 2nd

Yep.

My ISP provides a great service, 5Gb/month, good retention, completion, and maximum speeds. :)

The clandestine part of me thinks it is a shame, on the other hand I am hardly surprised. Suprnova grew too big and too popular, I think, and was a pretty good target.

My ISP is the best :)
Verizon = UNLIMITED bandwidth per month, I get over 50GB in a month and they don't say a word.
12.5day retention
don't know the completion, but I get around 80% of the groups
Max speeds.
:)

It is nothing to brag about when admitting you are a thief.

I used to be so proud of my collection of expensive softwares that I will never use. I was young and stupid.

6. Who is the owner of SuprNova.org?
Sloncek is the owner. I advise you leave off mailing/PMing him for now, he will be flooded with them and this is likely to be a very emotional time for him. He has feelings too. Give him some space.

LOL, yea 'omg my mostly illegal warez site wus shut down, i will cry now, plz leave me alone'

The quickest and easiest way to get to our IRC channel is to install MIRC and copy the following to your browser

Alternatively you can use the java chat by going to :

We've had our ups and downs during the last 14 months, but mostly its been a ball. Without your support it wouldnt have been possible so we would like to thank all the members, visitors and supporters of Phoenix Torrents during this time, and wish the other torrent sites in the community every success.

not too surprised...

too bad people use these networks to distribute illegal data as they can be really useful for finding legal data.
