wow, this is weird
guess it was one of those, "while it lasted" kinda things

there are still plenty of uses for Bit torrent, just no longer HUGE warez/divx/gamez sites..
atleast, not in the order of Sn, wonder if there forums are still up...

I gave up public peer at least a year ago. SSL ftp from release groups if/when you can get data.

Otherwise, use p2p at your own risk. It's clearly been the obvious target for lazy law enforcers for some time. Torrent technology will be around for a while I think.

Long live Usenet!!!!!!

usenet blows unless you pay for a server

I have an unlimited account with 20days retention, unlimited simultaneous connections from unlimited IPs (AKA ISP-outsourcing account). Kinda pricey, but I'm sharing it with - GASP - an entire [dialup/wireless] ISP. And about 20 other people who aren't paying customers at that ISP. And no, you can't have the login info.

It's kinda amusing, end of the month, we look up the stats for the account and there were like maybe 500mb between all 3000 dialup customers, 2 or 3 gigs between the wireless customers, and 30+ gigs on average to each of us who DON'T pay for it :p

It's the best service I've ever had.

even then, what about when you are looking for something that's a few years old? the selection would still suck

Actually, not really. It's just a matter or knowing where to look.

I am going back to mirc and newsgroups. :)

from all I see, bittorrent is good for n00b and lazy people. it is good to see these n00bs that don't know anything about warez gone. :D

As if you can find seeds for any old files on BT? And with over 3000 binary groups on Usenet, you will find almost anything out there.

that's is what i have thought of many sites, such as some IRC indexing sites. it's just TOO easy, and that's the only reason that they keep on getin gshut down. sad tho, it's the popularity and the ease that grows these communitys, and it's the same thing that shuts them down

lots of old files on BT with good seeds and peers

i guess the reason i never found much for usenet is because of the crappy retention and completeness from ISP servers. i don't browse these things looking for random things to download. it's usually something specific that i want.

Fvck a commercial ISP's server. At the very least buy yourself a real, honest-to-god Giganews account (NOT the kind your ISP gives you and calls "giganews")
