I am being superficial, I know, but choosing her to the Supreme Court will provoke a bunch of Janet Reno type of jokes...

Anyway, I do not like the fact that she does not have any formal judicial experience...

Whereas Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia are both movie star handsome and NOT piggy repulsive mounds of misplaced flesh at all!

At least Thomas is as bright as he is dreamily attractive.

Oh, snap! :awe:

Yeah, sheesh, she's no Clarence Thomas!

However, the ABA rating of Thomas was the least favorable of any confirmed Supreme Court nominee dating back to the Eisenhower administration (most nominees receive unanimous "well qualified" evaluations).[38]

Thomas had never argued a case in the high courts, though others have also been appointed without Supreme Court oral argument experience,[40] and prior to Thomas, forty Supreme Court justices had been appointed without any prior judicial service (though none have since).[41]

Thomas had never written a legal book, article, or brief of any consequence, and had been a judge for only a year.[40]

You do hopefully realize that you're just using a dumb diversionary tactic, don't you?

That being said, the "no judicial experience" charge is baseless, and can be addressed on the merits, without silly citations to Clarence Thomas or whatever. What matters in a judicial nominee is if they know the law, and if they have the intelligence and competence to apply it. Kagan appears to have that.

Actually, considering how many older men I see.. and have seen.. yes, I would say he's ugly. He's definitely not the ugliest, but that doesn't mean he's not ugly in general.

Fortunately for everyone on the SCOTUS, beauty isn't in the job description.

Yeah, the argument of not having been a federal judge is baseless, especially when considered in the historical context of the court. Those who typically harp on that one in my experience have been the ones who still have nightmares about Earl Warren to this day...

I can't wait until the conservative base at large can mature to the point where personal looks don't matter. At that point they will gain a huge dose of much needed credibility.

"I can't listen to Napolitano, she's just too ugly!"

"Hillary is such a dog, why did he marry here?"

"Who is scarier, Albright or Reno?"

...and so on.

I'm all for the occasional low brow joke, or providing a dry rundown on a particularly unflattering picture or scandal, but come on - this shallow, immature fixation on the looks of females in power (liberal females that is - can't ever recall hearing a conservative say anything about Thatcher, for instance) has gotten to the point where it's become a liability for conservatives. You want to bash them for their policies, or for what they've actually said? Go ahead, I might even join you. But this importance that is put on physical looks really just debases conservatives as a whole, and goes contrary to the ideals of class and respect that the same group loves to bring up all the time. It's the Supreme Court FFS, not some pagent!

Liberals will sometimes portray conservatives as backwards, self-absorbed chauvinists, and after years of listening to and watching right wing pundits act like idiot frat boys, I can see why. As a conservative leaning centrist, I wish a lot of you guys would just grow up and leave the hur hur look at the *** shit for happy hour.

Just so we're all clear, no experience as a judge is super, whereas a year as a judge is bad.

So loaded with fail I'm not sure where to start...

Not at all, in fact quite thankfully the far right wacko extremists are relatively small in number. I can only presume that I hit a nerve there possum, I've actually come to enjoy your posts of late, and this is probably the first time I've seen you dodge the gist of what was written and instead offer up a strawman as a feeble rebuttal. You don't agree with me, fine, I'm sure I'll find a way to get on with my life. ;)

She wouldn't have been made the Solicitor General if she didn't know about judicial decision-making in the Supreme Court. Half of that job is trying to predict which way the Court will decide before you even submit the appeal to them, and the other half is making an argument that will win your case. I wouldn't worry about her qualifications.

I think it is best they are open with their sexism. This way everyone knows what and how they think.

Sorry, dude, but every post but one I've seen of yours which expresses a political bent (which in P&N is most) has been an attack against "righties", "Bible thumpers", "sockpuppets", "right wing extremists", "right wing lunacy trips", the "vast right wing conspiracy", and the usual liberal whine litany of Palin/Bush/Reagan/Cheney/Faux News. Not that I don't enjoy your posts sometimes, but the idea that you are a "conservative leaning centrist" is just laughable. You consistently express the same views as does Red Dawn - not that there's anything wrong with that, but unless you're in the Obama administration it's nowhere near being a "conservative leaning centrist" any more than I 'm a liberal leaning centrist. That just could not stand without rebuttal.

As far as the gist of your comments, you've got me. I have to admit that I agree, although I do it too. But it's hardly a right wing failing, as witnessed by the fat comments about Christie. It's a human failing to judge first on appearance - and to be harder on those whom you consider for other reasons to be repugnant.

BTW, I still chuckle every time I read your quote.
