Hello Neal,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service.
My name is Joseph and I understand from your e-mail that you received a message that appears to be from Microsoft and contains an attachment or virus. The e-mail appears to be the result of the "W32/Palyh" virus which causes infected systems to send out e-mails that forge the Microsoft e-mail address in the "From" field.
The email did not come from Microsoft, and we never send unsolicited emails with attachments. Since this is the result of a spreading computer virus, there is no single source for us to investigate or track down. Information about Microsoft security policies and updates can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/news/patch_hoax.asp
We recommend deleting the e-mail immediately without opening the attachment. More information about this virus can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/virus/alerts/palyh.asp
If you have already opened the attachment, or otherwise suspect your system is already infected, we suggest visiting the above sites for suggestions on removal and repair. We also recommend installing and running anti-virus software on your computer. A list of anti-virus software manufacturers can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;49500
Neal, if you need further assistance with this issue, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of your anti-virus software. If you need further assistance from Microsoft, please visit
http://support.microsoft.com for more information about our technical support options. Have a nice day.
Thank you for using Microsoft products and services,
Joseph
