I got that one, norton detected the virus when I opened outlook and deleted it. Advice: Get an antivirus program... I would never open it anyways though.

I've gotten maybe 5 or 6. Generally they differ slightly. I use Mailwasher, so I see them before downloading to my computer. I've deleted each directly from my ISP's server. I got tired of it and created a filter in Mailwasher to automatically delete anything from support@microsoft.com and not even show me that it's there. What's the chance I will get a legitimate email from that address? I certainly don't expect any.

I got an email warning me of the virus a couple of days ago. Later that day, I got one and then a couple of more later on. AVG had alerted me each time one came in so, even if I was remotely inclined to, I didn't open it - just deleted it.

If you are running Outlook 2000 or XP then make sure you have the Outlook Security updates installed. Microsoft has made it such that attachments with certain extensions cannot even be accessed. They've also fixed the auto-open of attachments when you view the message.

Lucky for me I read this thread when it had about 5 posts.

Updated Avenger but did not risk testing if it would pick it up, deleted and forwarded to microsoft:D

Hello Neal,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service.

My name is Joseph and I understand from your e-mail that you received a message that appears to be from Microsoft and contains an attachment or virus. The e-mail appears to be the result of the "W32/Palyh" virus which causes infected systems to send out e-mails that forge the Microsoft e-mail address in the "From" field.

The email did not come from Microsoft, and we never send unsolicited emails with attachments. Since this is the result of a spreading computer virus, there is no single source for us to investigate or track down. Information about Microsoft security policies and updates can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/news/patch_hoax.asp

We recommend deleting the e-mail immediately without opening the attachment. More information about this virus can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/virus/alerts/palyh.asp

If you have already opened the attachment, or otherwise suspect your system is already infected, we suggest visiting the above sites for suggestions on removal and repair. We also recommend installing and running anti-virus software on your computer. A list of anti-virus software manufacturers can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;49500

Neal, if you need further assistance with this issue, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of your anti-virus software. If you need further assistance from Microsoft, please visit http://support.microsoft.com for more information about our technical support options. Have a nice day.

Thank you for using Microsoft products and services,

Joseph

I got it once at home and once at work.

Mine came from an IP assigned to SHAW.CA I wrote them but never heard anything back.

Got lots o'em. I don't read crap from microsoft anywayz, so... heh

AVG spotted it right away, and wouldn't have let me open it regardless.

I got it too. I noticed it when I was checking my email from work via web access. I just deleted the message. Won't ever reach my system at home. :)

I got a lot of emails to my account. They are all "message could not be delivered" type emails. I checked my sent items folder and I don't have any sent emails. The return address was my email, but someone else's name, and most of them through yahoo groups or some sort. WTF is this? I don't think I'm infected, but I got all these emails...

update: i just scanned with the norton tool... i don't have any viruses. is someone spoofing my email account or something?
