Also, the health care bill was a great idea.

And an unconstitutional one

And instead of suggesting a decent counter-proposal, the republicans did everything they could to block anything good from happening.

They did. Their suggestion at the summit was to scrap the bill, get rid of the special deals for specific unions and states, and pass different pieces of the legislation one at a time. There were things in the bill that the Republicans agreed on

Elections have consequences.

Yeh- notice the socio-economic wreckage around you, realize it didn't just pop up in the last 16 months...

Deregulate! Free Market Capitalism! World Economy! Tax Cut! War on Terrar! Ebil Saddam! and my fave- Ownership Society!

Righties are so deep in denial that they now define progress as squeezing their shoulders up their asses right behind their noggins...

Scrap the bill and pass a 100% Republican bill. I believe it would have consisted solely of tort reform. "Our way or the high way". That's their idea of "compromise", even in the minority. The best part is they somehow began to oppose the things they proposed back in the 90s, like the mandate, requiring coverage for preexisting conditions, the health insurance exchange... So it was really more like "our currently politically expedient way or the high way".

Actually, healthcare reform was just a place where they thought they could "Beat Obama!", and said so from the beginning. Just another repub exercise in tearing down the opposition regardless of the underlying reality.

The "underlying reality" as you call it will become evident in November. The role of the "opposition party" is to serve as a check and balance against the majority party.

The health care bill is far from perfect, and some would argue that Obama and the Democrats created a false sense of urgency around health care to score what they perceived to be an easy political victory during an election year.

Denial about what?
