Anyone have any advice on supplements? What do you take, how do you like it, etc.?

I'm looking to add a few things and would like some suggestions:

A good multi
Pre-WO
Different proteins?

Pre WO I'm thinking about trying White Flood. Anyone use that?

Protein, I'm currently using ON vanilla and ON strawberry. Prefer the vanilla to strawberry, but I'd like to try others.

All I take is Fish Oil and protein shakes now and then. I just recently upped my FO to 4 pills a day to see if it helps with my knee pain and other things more. I use ON chocolate protein with soy milk, natty peanut butter, and a banana. Tastes amazing.

I've taken White Flood. Not a bad product, but totally unnecessary IMO. For pre-WO, I prefer Superpump, or (if you can stomach the taste) 1-More Rep. I haven't tried Jack3d, but I hear good things about it.

For a multi, I take Catalyn, Cataplex B and Cataplex D.

I should also add that I am taking fish oil as well.

How hard are you working at the gym? If you get your diet in check, you have nearly no need for supplements. The only things I take are fish oil and vitamin D (since I'm not out in the sun a lot). Multivitamin is unnecessary as is whey unless you're really kicking your ass at the gym.

While nothing is truly necessary, much of it is useful. I don't have the greatest diet, nor do I eat a ton of calories. I use whey as a cheap "meal" as well as to get more protein.

I like dymatize. Usually pretty cheap. I usually just buy cheap whey though. Especially when the gnc coupon glitches pop up. The gnc brand protein mixes kind of funny in oatmeal though. Every once in a while you can pick up syntha-6 for ~17 on amazon if you do subscribe and save.

Compared to a good, balanced diet, supplements don't tend to add much to the table, unless you're actually working hard :) If you're working hard, then some of them are fine. If you're just a gym rat doing some work and hanging out, they're not necessary.

Shoot, I take an occasional Centrum, Calcium, and/or Vitamin C tablet. Not sure how often, but the same 250 tablet bottle of Centrum has been with me for at least 2 years now.

If you take too much too often, your body just flushes it down the toilet when you pee. Waste of money.

Actually, some vitamins (fat-soluble ones) will be stored within the adipose tissue, resulting in a toxicity. But that's the reason why you don't take multiple per day.

I have taken quite a few pre-workout supplements but I've narrowed it down to Animal Pack and Jack'd (which contains a small amount of creatine). Animal Pack contains 11 pills so its bit of an excersice itself, Jack'd is extremely tolerable though. Any one of these choices will significantly improve your overall workout performance. I bench press 240 normally but with these supplements i can push 265, to one rep of 280 and I only weigh 190(It gives a great amount of energy). Take fish oil and b12 complex, multi's aren't really needed if you go with animal pack, or the 2 listed. Make sure you eat an hour before your work out, take any supplement, stretch and work out.

My friends have said similar things, but I truly wonder how much of the noticed increase is due to placebo coupled with the energy boost you get from the one universal ingredient of all pre-workout supplements: caffeine.

I notice that if I go to the gym and, after my first set or two, "feel" like I'm going to have a good day, then I have a good day. If I feel tired, worn down, or slightly disappointed in my first set or two, unless I make a concerted effort to focus and truly expend maximal effort, my future sets will suffer and I'll have a less-than-stellar workout.

Given the aforementioned caffeine content in most of the supplements, I can also see how not taking it one day would make the user feel scattered, weak and lethargic--those being some of the effects of mild caffeine withdrawal.
