many retailers mark items 1 cent when they are being returned to the manufacturer....they aren't actually for sale..

jpl591, your cryptic message

<< none too bad for us they sold yesterday >>

confuses me. Does that mean they sold for 1 cent yesterday ?

My point is that absolutely nobody has proven this to be true. Most of the deals that are on this board involve either coupons, rebates, or pricing mistakes. I find it extremely hard to believe that a company this size would willfully lose money. All of these video cards would still sell like hotcakes if they were priced at $20.00. I could create a post that said: "Intel is selling every Pentium 4 for a penny". Just because some store might have sold a clearance item for a penny at one time, does not mean that every posted deal exists. I'm sorry, I can't believe that this is a deal. You might make me a believer if ONE person went to any of the stores and found this to be true. Until then, Santa Claus doesn't exist.

Shiznits,

I appreciate your doubt of a deal, and wanting proof, we can understand that.

But I think it was just the tone and "GET REAL" that made it sound like you were saying it wasn't possible to exist, that and the "NO WAY" part.

But it's all unimportant, I agree that you should cast doubt until someone says they found one for that price, but it just sounded like you were saying it wasn't possible, when you have no more proof than the guy who says it does.

Why does this message and most other multi-page messages have a second page with nothing on it when you click the 2?

I went to my local Babbages today, (Ft.Lauderdale, FL) They had 2 Voodoo1s on clearance for $10 each... I asked about the 1 penny deal and they said they have no idea about it.

I had the same thing happen to me too. But there was only 1 Voodoo 1 card left. Still, it was on clearance for $10, and they didn't know anything about the penny deal.

Ionizer:

I agree that every once in a while a spectacular deal can be found. However, I can't believe that after twenty posts, there wasn't a single doubter out there. C'mon guys. Just because we want it to be true, doesn't make it so.

I also seriously doubt this to be a legit deal. Even if it were legit, you're up against:

* The fact that very few stores actually have any left

* The fact that even if they did, the employees would be scooping them up by the armload.

* And if any WERE actually left to hit the sales floor, you'd have to be among the handful of people there when they brought them out, because we all know that ANYONE will buy ANYTHING for a penny, and anyone who was in the store at the time would clean them out (and worry about what they actually were buying later). I can just see granny with a cartload of Voodoo cards.

Great if you can get one, but I'm not running to my local store. I sincerely wish good luck to those of you who are going for it, though.

Off Topic here: You have to be logged in for that 'Last Page' feature to work. I know what you mean, there'll be one page, and you click the arrow to go to the last, only to end up a few over what really is the 'last page.'

For you doubting Thomas's - the manager at our Babbage's said that it was all true, BUT, and here's the problem, they gave them all away (he said our store did not charge .01) about 8 months ago. He said that there might be some left somewhere, but not in Tallahassee.

You can't believe because you dont want to do a little leg work for the deal...

I've gotten tons (ok maybe a few hundred) of stuff for 1 cent:
Staples : 294 black attache bags = $2.94 + $32 shipping (web)
CC : Tons of console game hint books = .01 each plus tax (b&m)
OD : 120 gravis game pads = 1.20 + .08 tax (b&m)
OM : 2 USB zip drives = .02 + .01 tax (b&m)
TRU : 380 AAA recharable batteries = .76 + tax (5 AAA battery in a battery pac for .01 a pack) (b&m)
OM : Kodak DC-210 floor model, missing everything (they were going to throw it away) = .01 plus tax (no returns :)(b&m)
compusa : 24 books = .24 + .02 (b&m)
+ some more....

The penny deals are out there, you just have to do some leg work...

Hey Brix, what stores are you going to contact? Just out of curiosity, I don't want to tread on the same water, LOL. We'll each take our own stores :)

Okay, just spoke with an employee of GameStop (Westminster, CA location) and he very clearly told me that all the cards that were priced as such have already been taken by the employees of the stores. And he reassured me that we as customers wouldn't have any chance of finding them. Not too optimistic, but hey, it's truthful, LOL.

Peace

It would? Not sure why you'd want an obsolete card. If you're running XP you need to use drivers from some 16 year old Sweedish kid to get any 3D functionality. Well...for almost free I guess it's not too bad. I myself am not really interested in one though (I have two V2000's and two V2's sitting on the shelf as it is).
>>

I guess obsolesence is in the eye of the user. I've got a couple of franken-systems sitting around that would love a 1 cent Voodoo card. I work on a lot of computers for people with a low level of upgrade know-how and a limited amount of money, and I'm sure they'd love a cheap upgrade to a good all-around card. Not to mention the kid up the street whose parents spend all their money on drink and dope, who saved his own lunch money to be able to buy a half-decent computer and would love to be able to fire up a 3D program every now and again.
>>

I guess my point is that your situation applies to very few people. I'm suprised that there's this much interest in it.

They actually do lose money on purpose. Remember the deal on the Sony Vaio wireless network cards at CompUSA? I was with a friend there who was buying one. The customer rep showed us how much CompUSA paid for them - ~$113. It was being sold for ~$50.

I stopped by two Babbages today. No dice. They had no idea what I was talking about. What's new. 8)
