Nice copy and paste job from VE

<< From the "it could be true, but we're not sure" department comes this story: Today Gamestop and its various corporate aliases (Gamestop, Babbage's, Software Etc, Supr Software) will (allegedly) be discontinuing all 3dfx graphics cards and unloading them on the public for a penny -- until they are all gone. Any leftover stock will be given away by store management or thrown away. So if you're interested in getting a Voodoo card for a mere penny, you might want to call your local Gamestop store to see if its true or not. Because it's about 5:00 AM EST time here it's a tad bit difficult to confirm this story... thanks to Demoral for the tip (the person, not the tasty drug). >>

Edit: Apparently, most stores are out of stock and have been along time. According to Allison (post towards the bottom) this deal is true; the manager of her local store said they did give away the last Voodoo's for free but a long time ago.

I thought all Voodoo cards had been discontinued already? Didn't 3dfx get bought out by Nvidia?

Anyway "Demerol" is the drug, not "Demoral."

It would? Not sure why you'd want an obsolete card. If you're running XP you need to use drivers from some 16 year old Sweedish kid to get any 3D functionality. Well...for almost free I guess it's not too bad. I myself am not really interested in one though (I have two V2000's and two V2's sitting on the shelf as it is).

The voodoo is a good candidate for Dual monitor setup....and for a penny........it's the winner.

I'm not seeing Voodoo on any of their webpages, then again I don't know if they were actually ever on there in the first place.

East Coaster in the hiz-ouse...

I called three stores in my mall (planet x, funco and game stop, yes all in the same mall)
Either they said "no we don't have any of those old voodoo cards" or "no we don't carry video cards" or "they don't make those anymore, we don't carry them"

I suppose I could try calling some more stores in my area, but it seems like this is one of those "if your local store has one left in the bargain bin, kinda lucky deal"

Also im not sure if they are distinguishing between ANY 3DFX CARD compared to the old ones specifically labeled "VOODOO".

I haven't seen any 3dfx cards in retail stores since they went belly up. Probably has something to do with selling a card with no return policy or support. From what I understand, most of the chain retailers with B&M's unloaded them during 3dfx's inventory buyback. At that point, they were bought up during 3dfx's liquidation of inventory and ended up with liquidators, reseller's, and lots on Ebay :) Good luck to any that find 'em, but I'm not even gonna bother checking (I'm on East coast as well).

I can't believe how many of you guys believe that this is actually going to happen. There is NO WAY that any store is going to sell any of these cards for a penny. Get real.

Shiznits,

As a senior member, it amazes me that you would ever doubt such a possibility.

As if the other day people didn't get the MS W2K Core Books, that retail for like $200 for $.88
or that people grabbed 80 gig hds for $50...or any of the other amazing steals and deals people have gotten.

Don't put people down for thinking their is a possibility, b/c that possibility of "the great american deal" is why people come here.

I guess obsolesence is in the eye of the user. I've got a couple of franken-systems sitting around that would love a 1 cent Voodoo card. I work on a lot of computers for people with a low level of upgrade know-how and a limited amount of money, and I'm sure they'd love a cheap upgrade to a good all-around card. Not to mention the kid up the street whose parents spend all their money on drink and dope, who saved his own lunch money to be able to buy a half-decent computer and would love to be able to fire up a 3D program every now and again.
