My father killed slugs by burying tin cans full of beer in the garden, down to about an inch visible.
I dunno if that'll help you or not.

Man, how do you guys get around to killing the stuff you catch with glue traps?

I caught a mouse in one once (it wouldn't trip the wire trap we tried earlier) and I couldn't bring myself to kill it. I put it in a plastic bag and raised a hammer over the bag to bash its head in, but right when the hammer hit its apex, the mouse started squeaking like crazy and I couldn't bring myself to do it. I ended up tying the bag up and tossing it in the trash. Every now and then it would squeak inside the trash can. Boy was I glad when trash day came around.

It didn't help that at the time we kept bunnies, and the mice kinda looked like small brown bunnies, only with a grotesquely wormlike tail.

Yeah, I had this problem last winter. I had some smart mice that were licking my snap traps clean and not setting them off last year, so I had to use glue traps to catch them. I ended up catching over 30 mice that year.

I got a cat in spring, though, and haven't had a single mouse since. Good kitty 🙂

dude....that's crazy

Try one of those sticky traps. He wont be able to run off with one of those. In fact he wont even be able to run. And most of the time you can tell when they are caught because they make a terrible screaching noise.

some mice are just gifted.

at my folks cabin, there was a pretty serious mouse problem. traps in the closets/walls didn't work, so my dad put poison in thr crawl space under the floor.

middle of the night, my parents woke up surrounded by the poison pellets. in their bed. the mice had taken the pellets up throught the walls and pushed them down on top of them through a knothole in the ceiling.

Darwin at work. We have killed all the stupid mice with simple traps, and only the smarter mice were left alive to procreate. So we stepped up the traps, and only the super smart mice remain.

soon, mice will be taking classes at night school on how to take over the world. One day, they will win and we will be screwed. I just hope I can get smart enough to get the pizza from the human trap without tripping it.

Dude, you've got it all wrong.. These particular mice were Intelligently Designed to be smarter than us.

I agree with the second post. If you don't eliminate this strain of mouse right now, we're all doomed. Light the match! 😀

Trap it and release it. He deserves to live.

NO, don't do that. They'll come running back into the house as soon as it gets cold outside.

Not that that it really matters... I only ever caught ONE mouse in my live trap. Most of them were smart enough to stay away from it, and went after the easier pickings on the snap traps and glue traps that I set out later.

By the way... The best way to kill a mouse on a glue trap is to flip it and stomp on it. Sounds cruel, but far more humane than letting them starve to death.

I had a mouse problem in my garage last year (gotta check the composter more often........... it's beside that garage).

A mouse family made house in my composter................. lots of babies.

I set out 2 spring traps, 3 sticky papers and some poison food.

I never saw any results from the poison (although they may have dies elsewear). but I got 3 adults in the spring trap and 7 babies on the sticky papers.

Cheers,
Aquaman

wow..smart mouse trying to turn the tide on your parents...so how did you guys got rid of them ?

peanut better works better than cheese. But I find your situation LOL material, and Dubb's post made me lol too.

sorry if you get offended if I got amused in your situation, but I guess nonlethal and unfortunate misfortunes of others is funny 😛

supermouse, hahahaha.

Try one of those adhesive traps

I'll have to try that next. He seems to like peanut butter more than cheese... or perhaps it simply has a stronger odor. But, with the adhesive trap, I can put cheese AND peanut butter in the center 🙂

Then again, this mouse would probably just stick his feet through, and carry off my adhesive trap to use as wall-paper in his little mouse hide-away, wherever that is.

Skip the cheese. It's a misnomer. Mice don't like cheese - except for in cartoons.

You are putting too much PB on the traps...it is weighing them down. Take the PB and put it in the hole in the center of the trap. You need very little PB!

Just take your finger and glide it over the trap mechanism. If you put more than that on there (like a glob), the mouse will be able to eat it off WITHOUT setting off the trap.

Let us know what happens! 🙂

I'd just like to say that I had a large mouse/rat in my apartment, and got a rat trap to take care of it. The resulting crippled and slowly dying rodent (twitching limbs and all) was just about the most disturbing thing I've ever seen.

Tie a string to the traps and tie the string to something solid.

I suggested dried cherries in one similar thread. The mouse has to work harder to get it loose from the trigger, and thus he's more likely to position himself directly over it to remove it, which will be a better kill-position.
He knows now that those wooden rectangles with food on them have a nasty bite, so he'll be delicate with them. A tasty dried cherry will prove a tempting offer, but a tough one to get away with. When he tries, SNAP. Smart mouse dead.
