The only reason someone with more than the maximum number of articles should ever be allowed to use the express checkout is if it's a cute girl with a nice butt and she's in front of me.

I was going to reply with something serious, but after reading Skyclad1uhm1's post. I have to say - YEAH - Ditto!

<< OMG,figures that dangerous freak lives just up the road from me:Q Thank goodness I do my grocery shopping online for the most part ! >>

Since I moved to the Boston area I have found this attitude typical. Usually it doesn't go to this extreme, but the 'tude is there alright.

From working the express line as a teen: What if you have 5 of the same item does it count as 1 item or 5? What if you have a 6pack of beer? What if there's a buy x get y free? Do the free items count as items? ;) What if my wife and I are in line together do we get 20 items? What if we pay separately?

People abuse the express lane. It's a fact of life.

If you don't like it, don't shop there (I've written off Super Wal-Mart because it takes too long to check out in ANY line no matter when I went--but I don't go anymore--except for 1 or 2 items--if there's a hot deal posted--and other walmarts don't have it--and then I go through the super walmart auto department to pay).

Complain to the manager on the way out that you felt the wait was inexcusable. If enough people stop shopping or start bitching the stores will make changes.

I would also like to know when

CASH = CHECK

And they don't even pull out the checkbook until they get a total. Damn, start writing who its to, the date, sign it, fill in your register, and all that stuff AHEAD OF TIME.

Get out of the pool already...

And you know why they do that don't you:

1) If it's the express lane it's because they knew they can't use a check. Now the 20items are already scanned and it'd take too long to void the order so they'll get away with it. (If they pulled out the check book in the beginning the clerk might tell them to move to another lane).

2) If it's a regular check out, (the old) folks always had to watch the price of every item getting scanned so it was the correct price. Thus, they couldn't do anything else while things were being scanned (like filling out a check). Some would ask me to slow down so they could see the prices.

That said, Debit Cards seem to take just as long as checks by the time it gets authorized. And I'd be PO'd if they banned debit cards from the checkout lanes.

6 items or less to me means 6 items that need to be scanned. So a 6-pack is only 1 item. Buy 1 get 1 free is 2 items. For a 10-item express lane, if you have 20 items and 2 people standing in line, that's fine by me.

I never mind when someone is just 1 or 2 items over. I would definitely say something to them (assuming they're not a 250lb lean man) if they have 3 over. That's my limit right there.

There's also a huge difference if the person is:
1) hoping nobody would mind
vs.
2) hoping someone would say something to them so they can yell back (I don't give a sh!t attitude)
