Super Pi benchmark - Post your 1M and 8M times!

Thanks to Klah for putting me on the right path with this.

Here are my times with the "Money Pit" rig in my sig.

1M = 52 seconds
8M = 9:51

I DL'd this new (to me...) benchmark. *shrug* I ran it. *more shrug* Ooooooooooooo-kaaaaaaaaaaay.

What size/length was I supposed to use? what's a good score? Or is it not used that way? Is it used like P95 TT where you just attempt to fry the CPU?

Usually I see 1M and 2M figures posted.

But here are some 8M figures from Macci for comparison:

Some SuperPi 8M numbers we can use to compare em:
NW @4.8GHz (300x16 5:4 2-2-2-5) = 5min 34sec
Prescott @4.5GHz (281.5x16 5:4 2-2-2-5) = 5min 33sec

Just do a search for 'super pi' at xtremesystems.org, ocforums.com etc. and you will find hundreds of results to compare with.

Thanks Klah!!! I will run the 8M one. Should I do that w/o anything else running or using any other apps? I would guess "yes", right?

It does run the cpu at 100% so performing other tasks would increase your time.

My 8M result is 9:51

Pretty sad next to the 4.8GHz P4....but not bad, I suppose. Is that decent? Average? You just wait...My AthlonXP is drinking MILK, and someday, he's gonna grow up to be an Athlon64 processor...and he's gonna whoop-ass!!

My 1M speed is 52 seconds.

Obviously, this benchmark is about more than raw clockspeed, since the A64s hold the top spots and they are "only" at 2.2-2.3GHz.

Dang....makes me want to build that A64 rig! :Q

Not too bad. A stock 2500+ does around 10:30.

I know you were thinking about upgrading to an overclocked 2500+ a few weeks ago, Mike, but decided to wait until the next round to upgrade. I checked your system rig (2100+ @ 2.0ghz), and here's mine to compare:

2500+ @ 2.0ghz (183 x 11)
1024mb RAM
Epox 8RDA board

....and I get 52 seconds for the 1M benchmark. Go figure...

Yeah, I came this close to springing for a 2500/NF7-S combo. But then I started really looking closely and seeing that MOST folks were getting around 2200-2300MHz out of them.

So basically, MAYBE another 300MHz higher than I've got now, for another $185 spent. The price vs. performance didn't seem to balance out for me...so I went and spent $350 on a SCSI subsystem. It's fast as heck!

It's something I'd been itching to try for a long time...and it was worth it...mostly. Not to get too deep into it, but I'm SORT of pissed at myself for doing it. I'm not even tapping into 10% of what these Fujitsu MAS drives can do...kind of like buying a Ferrarri Enzo so you can sit on the 405 freeway in LA at rush hour.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the bugs to be worked out of the NF3-250 boards before going to an A64 platform; the boards aren't even out yet. Typically, you get the board w/the initial bios. If the board is good, they'll release a bios update for it a month or so later. If the board is not so good, you wait longer for Rev 2.0, ala Abit NF7-S. First iteration wasn't so great, the Rev2.0 kicks absolute ass.

Currently, I'm playing Splinter Cell at 1280 x 1024, with details maxed and the two shadow settings at medium and 16x performance AF turned on, and get 60+FPS while moving around slowly and around 45FPS "under pressure." Don't think another 300MHz would do much to improve that.

Damn, I got off topic.

OK, back to the Pi!!! I need to change the title to "Post your results!"

I like running PiFast as well. It seems more finicky and is a good first guage of stability when playing with overclocks. Every time PiFast fails, Prime95 eventually fails. Every time PiFast succeeds, Prime95 will go on and on.
